Charges have been dropped against O.J. Mayo, the high school basketball superstar and USC recruit who had been cited for marijuana possession in Huntington, West Virginia, last week. The charges were dropped because two individuals took responsibility on Monday for the small amount of marijuana that police found in a car that Mayo was riding in. Initially all four of the people in the car had been charged with possession. This is great news for the Trojans, as Mayo is generally considered the best high school player in the country, and USC landing him was a major recruiting coup for the program.

His entourage must really suck if it took this long for the charges to get dropped.

Here we go again, protect the star, no foul no consequences. What are we teaching this young man? Be the man on the court but not in court!!! Step up on the court but hide behind your friends on the street?
What a travesity!

Amen, everyone. Same old story!!! Will these people ever learn!!!???? Too many imes, too many instances way too often. Amazing how someone else gets the blame and takes the hit. Winning is everything these days, so it seems.
Take me back to the good old days when "stars" made reasonable salaries, were honest, and played for the game. Now they want to be "superstars" not giving one damn about anything but their incredibly overblown opinion of themselves and absurd money.
What a horror!!!

Here we go again with the USC Trojans. They are making the Bowden Boyz of Florida State look like alter boyz. Lets see, assault, rape, drugs, DUI, grand theft... just a few of the cases dropped against athelets at USC. No integrity, no sportsmanship, the ends justifies the means. USC fans should hang thier heads in SHAME! You have no one to blame but Boosters, Admin, and COACHES.

Ease up, my friends. He hasn't played one minute at USC! (I am sure every school in America would have welcomed him on thir roster.) This issue is largely due to the emphasis by society on athletic skills and celebrity attraction! He probably has been granted favor by family, friends, school officials, and the local grocer all his life because he can do on the court what most of us can't. Period. So, it is what it is...another Black man set up for failure. Let's keep him in prayer and hope he can overcome the odds.

dish 10,..what a cop out. 4 dudes with pot in the car is what it is. Period. Being black, even if a disadvantage, does not eliminate one's ability to make good decisions. I guess because he can "do on a court what most of us can't" he must be a black man? If I said something remotely close to that I would be labeled a racist! There are a few non-black men that can do on the court what most of us can't? One such man is the reigning two time NBA MVP. He too was probably coddled and favored growing up because of his athletic prowess and celebrity. Is that the example of another white man set up for failure? Set up for a failing life of fabulous riches and celebrity? Of getting away with what 99% of us could never!!? Poor poor OJ Mayo. It is such a shame he will lead such a miserable life as this since he has been so set-up for failure!! I wish I could be set up to fail so well!! Could it be that society is obsessed with celebrities and athletes, white or black, that the wrong values and attributes are emphasized? Wouldn't it be great if we worhipped our teachers, white or black, or research scientists, black or white, with as much enthusiasm as is reserved for OJ Mayo and Paris Hilton? Is THIS not really the problem instead of some supposed conspiracy to set up the black man for failure? Of course it is!!

Look, it was a weak charge to begin with. If someone other than OJ took the blame then this country's laws dictate that OJ is not to blame and must be let off scott free. If you have a problem with this country's laws, that's one thing. But don't go bad-mouthing this kid because his superior basketball skills attract attention wherever he goes. Half of you guys here would kill to have him join your favorite college's team so you're basically hypocrites.

Hey!
The kid got caught with a small aaamount of Weed. Probably just getting ready for College. If this is the extent of his problems, so what. He is just like every other kid out there. Because he is in the news, we hear about it! Give him a break. We seem to forget
what we did as kids?

I have met Oj Mayo a couple of times and from my experiences he seems to be a very nice kid. Everybody I hear also says he is a nice kid at school. I saw Oj play last night and 4 other times this year and he is a great basketball player. USC should be very happy to get him. Also the drugs were not on him and there was actually less than reported.

Please, USC haters, do your homework. It is not just USC & never has been. Star athletes start receiving special attention in middle school & it continues on up. If you can dribble a ball or catch/throw a pass, you are golden. If you can use your brain, get admitted to an institution of HIGHER LEARNING (remember THAT was what college used to be for), then cure a disease, solve a world problem, etc, you are lucky if you make the news one time! Welcome to America, land of dumbass loving, mediocre-at-best, entertain-me-now populace.

early in the fall of '06 five niagara university students were charged with assault on a baseball player from niagara after a night of partying on main street in the falls.so what happens the same crap the players after a number of court hearings the charges are reduced.no wonder atheletes act the way they do when they get to the next level.
