There's a reason David Stern is often considered the best commissioner in all of sports: He is a man of vision.During a chat on ESPN.com (sorry, Insider) this afternoon, a reader brought up the possibility of adding a H-O-R-S-E tournament during the All-Star break, and as my colleague Tom Ziller briefly pointed out, Stern entertained the idea.
David Stern: We're open to it. I think we are continually looking for different ways to showcase our players skills. One issue there is competitiveness! We might get somebody so hot they will embarrass everybody else.Should the NBA add H-O-R-S-E to the weekend (and hopefully get rid of that gawd-awful skills challenge), I guarantee you that it'll be the most popular feature of the mid-season showcase. Unlike the stale dunk contest, guys will kill for the opportunity to participate in the event since it's something they already compete in practically every day after practice. Please
But we will look into it.

I'm very skeptical as to the success of a H-O-R-S-E exhibition. People already get bored when Nate Robinson takes a dozen attempts on a dunk. Why would it be any different watching guys take turns missing halfcourt, over-the-head, one bounce shots?

Dear Mr. Stern,
Thank you for listening to basketbloggers, the NBA's biggest fans. Please also look into adding one-on-one, two-on-two, and/or whatever else you like that we've suggested here: http://hoopsaddict.com/2007/02/21/bloggers-say-change-all-star-weekend/
Again, thanks for paying attention to the fans.
Yours truly,
Jeff W

Finally, Stern listens to Bill Simmons. Simmons has been proposing HORSE for years.

Jordan vs Bird for the first HORSE contest... if that isn't totally awesome, shelve the event forever.
May as well work in a 21 tournament, too.. with the 11-0 slaughter rule.
Every team can also send their 12th man to the ASG, and they will have a conference vs conference Dodge Ball game, using basketballs. They'd probably have to put the hockey boards up, or they'd break some fan's neck.
