Do I actually know who's a better goalkeeper, Briana Scurry or Hope Solo? No.
Do I have an opinion about the news that Scurry will replace Solo as the U.S. goalkeeper against Brazil in the women's World Cup semifinal? Yes. I think it stinks.
U.S. coach Greg Ryan caught everyone by surprise when he made the change, which was apparently motivated by the superior big-game experience of the 36-year-old Scurry. Former American team captain and current ESPN analyst Julie Foudy -- who unlike me actually does have an informed opinion on such matters -- doesn't like the decision.
If the Americans beat Brazil and go on to win the World Cup Final on Sunday, Ryan will be a genius. If not he'll be an idiot. I'm betting on the latter."I think Bri will be fine, and the move will be fine," Foudy said. "But I just think it becomes a distraction when you're too focused on that rather than the game. To me it's a sign of worrying too much about the opponent. I think you just play. You know they're good. You know their strengths and weaknesses but you don't have to make such a drastic change."

What was the fool thinking, switching goalies? If it
was not for two short handed goals, Hope Solo would of had 4 shut outs. First mistake, not taking Amby
out after she got hurt, second mistake replacing Hope. Fire the coach and hire Julie Foudy

It was such a bad decision that I feel sorry for Ryan. No matter how he tries to justify it, he must know that in the end it created not only distraction but doubt, disturbance and disillusion in the team. Not what you want have entering a playoff game in any sport.
Scurry was rusty from lack of recent real game experience.
- 1st goal - Did not communicate properly with the defender
- 2nd goal - Solo saved a more potent shot at a crucial time in their first game. Also her height would have allowed to have a better reach on the ball.
Not Scurry's fault, she should have never been put in that position.

The choice of goalkeeper was not just the mistake of the head coach it was the whole team mistake: assistant coaches, captains and players. When a coach makes that bad of judgement saying he is going to start a back up keeper the rest of the team has to step up and bring the coach back to reality.

Solo went 300 minutes without being scored on. Younger, bigger, focused, and ready to play Brazil one-on-one if she could. Coach Ryan benches her for some reason he only knows (forget the white noise he uses as justification). Solo felt hurt and betrayed by the Coach...the team shocked...USA crushed on the field. Solo's anger comes from Coach Ryan's ignorance of a fundamental rule...team unity and cohesion on the field - like previously mentioned - if it is not broke, don't fix it! Ryan should be out. Solo will have her day in the sun again...champions always do and rise to the top.

I feel really bad for scurry. she WAS a great goalkeeper and this game did not do justice for her carees. I totally agree she sould not have been put in that situation, solo was the #1 goalkeeper and it should have been that way. The coach and the team made a really bad decission.

No comment on the Coaches decision but he is the Coach. You do not blast the Coach. She should be removed from organized sports for life.

What was Greg Ryan thinking of benching his top goalkeeper? Unless Hope broke team rules or was injured this was a dumb decision.

Regardless of the decision on whom should start and did ultimately play the, the after game comments of Hope Solo makes one think of what a great team player/teammate she is or in this case is not. She certainly echoes of a coddled, elitist, preened since childhood soccer mom's daughter. I certainly would not want her as a teammate. Support your team Hope and show some class.

In retrospect, Ryan made a coaching mistake. That happens. Hope criticized her coach and teammate publicly. That cannot happen. If I were the coach, Hope would be removed from the team.

To think that what Hope did was right, is to accept that one player is better than the team, calling out your coach and teammate is unbecoming of a leader, the team comes before anything!! respect, honor and fairplay, thats what Soccer is about, also to think that you could have stopped Brazil, BOY? next thing you know we will have another Terrell Owens in soccer disrespecting coaches oficials and teammates, lets support action like this let the children follow in these footsteps, see what happens.

When Greg Ryan responded to Hope Solo's derogatory comments after the Brazil game by referring to all the young goalies he could rely on, he essentially said to Hope "Shut up and sit down. If you don't like the way I do things, then leave the team. I don't need you!" This is the stock answer of an immature coach...threaten the player. Hope Solo now knows Ryan's true character...and loyalty and fairness are not persent. Ryan's contract is up this year. US Soccer can do better. Bill, Tulsa

This just in ... Wade Phillips will start Brad Johnson over Tony Romo if the Cowboys make it to the NFC championship game . Wade says Brad's got more experience .
Now does'nt that sound dumb . After the England game i would have copied the lineup and turned it in .
I think the coach was looking for his own place in history by trying to show the world how smart he is . He did this at Hope Solo's and Briana Scurry's expense . He should be fired and let an assistant coach the game against Norway .
