For your continued ESPN on ABC viewing displeasure, bumpstop3 has put together another great video - this one of what the west coast viewers experienced on Sunday, a.k.a. "The Lost 18 Laps of the Dodge Dealers 400."
Take special note of the tagline on "The Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Only on ABC" promo: Miss A Lap, Miss A Lot. Are they kidding? They are actually rubbing it in?

I agree with you, and am also sick of them cluttering up the picture with usless info during race. They dont do this during tennis or any other sport, so why do they think it is ok during race?I beleive the coverage indicates a TOTAL lack of respect for NASCAR fans.

Unacceptable to any fans of Nascar and only seems things get worse with ESPN/ABC and the problem gets worse with Rusty Wallace in the broadcast booth..Wake up ESPN/ABC......Before you lose viewers.......

Like many I would and do pay extra for hotpass on directv, just so I don't have to listen to the worst broadcast team and the total crap of viewing they put together. Everyone, join the darkside and pay the extra for hotpass, it is worth it. At the first of the year I thought it was to much money, but not now, it was one of the best decisions I made..

I would hope if Nascar doesn't do something about the ESPN on ABC that Nextel does. They just do not do justice to a Nascar race and the commentary group is the worst I have ever heard. Wallace is NOT commentator material at all. He needs to go back to the garage and give up the microphone to someone who will keep the race fan interested.

Hmmm...maybe that's Nascar's whole plan abby. Maybe they want us to pay more to get away from the horrible coverage so they get more money. I mean, I already pay more for a cable package that includes Speed channel, which used to be included in a less expensive package but Nascar decided to change it's classification (to one similar to ESPN2 or something stupid) so it costs more. And I bet they're getting money from the deal. No, I won't get trackpass or Hotpass (esp since I don't have the option of Direct tv), I'll just stop watching the races. Maybe that will send a message that they'll actually listen to.

Good point RC, I'm just so thankful I don't have to listen to Rusty, and not miss most the race, but your probably right, another way to get more cash.

Well after reading the above article, I am completely dumbfounded, seriously. I thought our viewing was sad here in the midwest, but clearly it wasn't as bad as those on the west coast. There is absolutely no excuse for this type of broadcasting in any sport. I agree with some of your comments above. It does appear that ESPN/ABC have little if not no respect for us Nascar fans. That's a sad shame. I mean I am a football fan too, but I don't care what is going on with football while watching my Nascar race. When I watch football, they don't interrupt it's broadcasting to tell me about other sports. That's what half-time reports are for, right?
Ugh, it seems there is no end in sight to the terrible coverage of our beloved Nascar when it comes to ESPN/ABC. All we fans can do is pray that Nascar officials, Nextel Cup officials, & other broadcast stations are reading these blogs and seeing what it is WE the fans that pay their salaries really want!

Rusty Wallace is the Joe Theismann of NASCAR. NBC was horrible and ESPN/ABC isn't much better. Love to see FOX do the races all year.

As I said in the other article on this issue. Turn off your TV for this weeks race. There will be little to no difference in actually trying to watch it anyways. When they lose viewers they will lose advertisers and they will get the message.

Mike & Anna:
I actually think I will take both of your suggestions & not watch the race this weekend, since technically it isn't really on anyway with the lack of coverage and so many commercials. There is a carnival at my childrens' school this weekend. I think I will take my kids to that instead & read about the race in the paper on Monday. :-) Count me in.
Anna, I agree. Come on Jr. Nation, hop on board. You have the biggest fanbase, boycot the race for one week & see what that does to ESPN/ABC's network ratings for the day. Maybe then they will get the hint!

a very convincing job of editing. however the six spot commercial break you included was a national/local break, which is also done the same way on fox. the network has time allotted for commercials during that break as does the local station.
the 18 missing laps were not espn/abc's fault, it was the fault of your local affiliate. here on the east coast my abc affiliate didn't have any problems broadcasting the whole race, so it had to be a problem with your local affiliate.
you people just amaze me. get over it. espn/abc does the same kind of job fox or tnt does. if you don't like the coverage then listen to it on radio!

Hey John! Can I tell you that out of ALL the comments on this subject that you are the ONLY one that is defending ABC/ESPN coverage??? Do you work for them?? Ha! I am so glad someone brought this up about the west coast coverage...I thought I was losing my mind. I don't even watch the pre-race coverage (I go to SPEED). You would think that it would be possible to take all of this feedback from the Fanhouse and somehow get it to NEXTEL, NASCAR, and ABC/ESPN - kind of like a petition to get something done. Step one...get rid of Suzy and Brad, then Rusty. Then get a new director and producer. Hopefully all of the time we have all taken to comment will mean something.

Contact the sponsors! They are the ones that ultimatly make out the paychecks. Tell them you will not buy their products unless they force a change. Because MONEY TALKS! It will work.

Everyone screaming about how they wish Fox was back just astounds me! Do viewers have that short of memories? No matter the problems with ESPN, it's still better than hearing Darrell Waltrip's stupid phrase and shameless self-promotion of himself, his brother and Toyota. Every year this happens around this time, everyone hated NBC last year and was wishing for Fox to come back. When Fox came back, they were screaming for TNT or NBC.

Thank you for that support Anna and Kim and Sandy. Maybe you did not see my other post. In that post I did mention that the Jr Nation should support this due to the fact that ABC does not even know who he is or which car he is driving. Therefore, again for them, not seeing the race at all makes no difference from what they are getting now. While it certainly does not bother me that we do not have to listen to a Little E report every thirty seconds, I am sure it bothers them that he is not the highlight of every race. And believe it or not folks, I was actually pulling for him this week since he was kickking butt and my driver, Jeff Gordon could not break into the top ten all race long.

I have been so disappointed in the coverage. It is nothing but commercials. Last week, ABC stated no more commericial until the end of the race. Well, that didn't last long--another commercial. THEY ARE THE WORST IN BROADCASTING NASCAR!!!!!!!!!!!
