Vikings Could Be in the Donovan McNabb Business This Offseason

It's pretty much decided that Tarvaris Jackson isn't the answer in Minnesota, huh? He's battled injuries and inconsistency in his short two-year tenure, and one of the big off-season questions is who will the Vikings get to hand the ball to Adrian Peterson, and occasionally throw some play-action passes.

Finding a franchise quarterback via the draft is one option, but Minnesota might not be in position to take one of the top three, and the team has already been burned via the small-school route. The Pioneer Press' Charley Walters has some thoughts:
Vikings quarterback options for next season still appear to be trying to trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for Donovan McNabb, who might now cost only a third-round draft pick; making an offer to Cleveland Browns restricted free agent Derek Anderson, who could cost at least $15 million in guaranteed money; or moving up in April's draft.
Wow. A third-round pick is all it might take to land McNabb? That seems like a no-brainer, but I keep having these visions of post-Minny Daunte Culpepper, bumbling his way through Miami and Oakland. McNabb's not trying to return from a catastrophic knee injury, and he actually might benefit from a change of scenery.

Anderson is making the most of his opportunity in Cleveland. He'll be a restricted free agent at the end of the season, and the Browns will likely slap him with a first-round tender. And just like Matt Schaub when he was in Atlanta, Anderson will generate a lot of interest. Whether a team thinks he's worth a first-rounder is another issue, but it's not a completely insane idea. Maybe even for the Vikings.
