Maybe the All-Star Game is a meaningless to the players and just an excuse for Bud Selig to admire himself for a week. That doesn't mean that the selections should be stupid. Today, the MLB 'Haus gives you All-Star Grievances.
Grievance: The lack of
Grievance: Jason Varitek. Players are S-M-R-T. It's fairly annoying that the players -- and not the fans! -- can do things like let Varitek start for the All Star Game. Vegas Watch probably said it best.
Grievance: Joe Crede over Evan Longoria. Longoria has been in the bigs less time this season and his totals are just far and away better than Crede's. Which makes all of this (meaning his selection) pretty redonk. Also: MORE RAYS, please.
Grievance: The whole "you can't have an All Star Game in New York without Derek Jeter" thing. Yes, yes you can have an ASG without Jeter. It would take place in New York, it would involve the National League versus the American League and instead of a celebration of overrating someone, it would recognize a good first half. Unfortunately for me, the once proud AL SS corps has dwindled badly, so the argument isn't as strong, but please, people, come on. He's really not that good.
Other Snubs: I really feel like Carl Crawford and Nick Markakis deserve some serious consideration but then again, you need 39 pitchers and eleventy billion Red Sox and Yankees on the roster, so what are you going to do?

Evan Longoria still has a chance, however it must be considered a long shot, but he is legit and should be an All Star
Vote him in

Wow.. if you had paid attention to anything you would know that there are only three Yankees on the all star roster as opposed to 7 players for the Red Sox. If anything there are too many Red Sox players on the roster.
I do agree with you that Evan Longoria and the Rays have been getting shafted though. They are playing great baseball and deserve to have more representatives on the All Star roster

Wow, 3 Yankees is too much!!! They are not playing great now and it is a real possibility that they won't make the playoffs this year. That being said, A-Rod, who is still having a real good year despite being on the Dl for the first time in a decade and Mariano who is STILL the greatest closer in history and having a great year again absolutely deserve to be here. Jeter is having a sub par year, but hey it's in NY and the fans put him there. Now 7 Sox is a bit much, but the Devil Rays should have more than a couple. Give the team it's due.

I'd like to know how Terry Francona goes to the all-star and Joe Maddon stays at home. The Red Sox budget is twice the Rays and they are still 5 games behind. The All-Stars represent the best of the best during the current year...not past 5 years.
The Rays went from the worst record to best in the entire league. The previous post was right-on. The national press has done their best to push the Rays to the bottom of the newsday. I know it's only half way through the season but they are playing great ball.

People what do you have against Derek Jeter? What, because he plays for the NY Yankees, and you hate the Yankees? And before anyone starts writing some BS of him being overrated, please do a comparison of him and MLB all time hit leader. And just in case you don't know who that is, it's a player by the name of Pete Rose. Compare each players first 12 full seasons for DJ it's 1996 and for Pete Rose it's 1963. After doing the math, if any of you so called knowledgeable baseball fans even know how to do the math. You will realize why when Major League Players were asked the question, if you were making up a team who would you want on it, His name (Derek Jeter) was second on the list behind A-Rod who was number 1. So when you use the word overrated, know what you're talking about first, so you don't look as ignorant as we already know you are! Would you say that about any other player ready to pass 3000 hits and if he stays healthy god willing he will, could possibly pass 4000 hits. (Which by the way only one man in the history of baseball has done and his name is again Pete Rose.

This is one boy who loved baseball growing up and was good enough personally to have hit two (2) home runs in different years at the old Tiger stadium nut unfortunately like everything else we as a society have succumed to media blitz and unbelieveable egos. Yes these guys are great players but they are not so far above all the media hype that the fan really has no say in who they would consider worthy of this opportunity. Bud Selig is a joke. The game is a multi-million dollar money making scam. Think I bench myself as many of my associates are doing. The TV ratings should reflect the fan feelings. Believe it or not the All Star game is not national holiday as some would have you believe.

Johan Santana. Santana is at 500 now but has always been a second half pitcher and has been THE best lefty in baseball the last couple of years.

Longoria! Clutch hits and saved at least 6-10 games this year with his glove.
Writer? No need to put the devil with a line through it in the headline. I think we all know..

I find it really really funny that you're talking about ignorance when you can't even get your facts straight. Don't get me wrong, I agree with everything you said, but check the record books again. Some Ty Cobb guy... I don't know, anyone ever heard of that guy? ... had over 4000 hits too. Please, if you're going to make a point, at least fact-check, please.

Moonprism,
Maybe you saw Ty Cobb Play the game but I have not, so I will not comment on someone that played so long ago and in an entirely different Era. Yes your correct about Cobb with 4191 hits, but within the last fifty (50) years that I have watch this game to say that a player with the stats of Derek Jeter is overrated is a joke. So Get the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!
