The nice neighborhoods, beautiful weather, and close proximity to Los Angeles are all things that seem to make living here a no-brainer. If you're a star athlete that can afford it, that is.

The community has been home to many athletes over the years, including the three we'll feature today. First we have Tony Gonzalez of the Kansas City Chiefs. His rooftop deck (pictured above) is the highlight of his place, and as such it can be yours for the low price of just under $4 million.

More photos, including shots of the homes of Derek Lowe and Jason Kendall, after the jump.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

FanHouse in the Stands: Arizona Rolls in Home Opener Against the Dolphins

by Brett Edwards
This season, FanHouse writers take their cameras to NFL stadiums to document what happens when you stop being polite and start getting real. Or something. We've cleverly titled it "FanHouse in the Stands."

"The Cardinals. The Dolphins. It's the NFL ... on CBS!" Alright, so maybe Arizona hosting Miami isn't exactly the most glamorous matchup in the world, especially on a day where there were some absolutely epic games that went down in the League. But hey, it was the Cardinals' home opener, and after beating the 49ers last week -- something Arizona couldn't do in either of the teams' two meetings last season -- the fans were more than ready to cheer their club to a 2-0 start.

As weak as the NFC West has looked so far, the Cardinals appear to have a legitimate shot at winning the division -- which is something that definitely isn't being overlooked by their fans. They know that even this early in the season, games like these are a must-win if they want to have a shot at the playoffs. So against a team like the Dolphins -- who were clearly entering a classic letdown game -- the fans were smelling blood by kickoff time. Um, especially this guy.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Dwight Howard: Baseball Player?

by Brett Edwards
Could Dwight Howard have been a baseball player? It's an interesting proposition, and one that doesn't seem all that far fetched when you see how quickly the Phillies' hitting coach was able to get Dwight to start connecting.

The real question though, as was so eloquently posed over at Bugs and Cranks is this: Can Ryan Howard (or any of the Phillies, for that matter) dunk? You can teach someone to hit a baseball, sure, but size and hops are gifts that someone would seemingly need to be born with.

Jones did exactly that on Friday, and had some advice for a team that has been through more than their fair share of turmoil in this young season.

"Look at me. My last three years was really, after I beat John Ruiz, it just went downhill for a minute," Jones said Friday. "That happens. But the true professionals come back through that. If you're a true professional you can battle back through that. That's when you find out what they're made of."

I'm not sure if there are any true professionals left on the Knicks at the moment, but that's beside the point. Isiah Thomas had the line of the day desribing Jones' skills on the basketball court.

"Shot was a little suspect, but nobody got close enough to him. I don't think anybody wanted to challenge him for fear that he may punch him."

Isn't that the main problem with the Knicks right now, that they're almost resigned to the fact that they're going to lose and won't even bother with putting up a fight? It was a funny line from Isiah, but as the team's head coach, I'm not sure I would be so eager to point out this embarrassing fact.

By the way, the thing that impressed me most about Jones from this story? The fact that he played in a USBL game in 1996, then TKO'd some fool to defend his super IBF title later the same night. Talk about a bad-ass, you definitely won't find me betting against this guy come January 19th.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
