It only seemed like a matter of time. He's notorious for burning bridges and ripping apart franchises, but it would appear Terrell Owens time has ended with the Dallas Cowboys. Initially the Cowboys were merely flirting with the topic of releasing Terrell Owens, but that's now a reality. Several sources have indeed indicated that Terrell Owens will in fact join the list of those recently out of work.

Where will he land? Does anybody really trust the guy anymore? So who else is impacted? One thing is certain the release of T.O is "huge" news in the fantasy world. He's betrayed many an owner's trust in recent years, but he's come up huge when motivated. Will he in fact be motivated with this upcoming chance, most likely being his last shot? Well, let's take a look at the stock market post T.O release and also take a guess at a few potential suitors.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Ward just signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs with aspirations of finally being the man.

If another season plagued by knee injuries wasn't the signal of the end for Carnell Williams, this should be. Ward had other suitors in the fold, but chose the re-vamped Tampa Bay offense that is beginning to take on a new shape in the early going of this new regime. You may recall Ward was quite the steady contributor the past few seasons in New York and he caught the eye of many in the fantasy football world after he blistered the Carolina Panthers for 215 yards on National TV. So who else is impacted?

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

However, that sure doesn't mean us diehards have nothing left to do but wait for next season. Nope, now more than ever, it's time to fine-tune those skills that got you a fantasy football trophy, or brought you darn near close to one. Yes, let your opponents settle into comfort, while you do your homework all offseason.

A bit drastic? Quite possibly, but during the slow stretch (a.k.a. the waiting game) we'll be here to give you little tidbits to take to heart and make note of for next season. The first order of business is evaluating the players who "elevated" their games in the NFL playoffs. Year in and year out, there are always guys who breakout in a way you could dream of, had it been the regular "fantasy" football season.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Depending on the scoring system for your league, three rookies most likely finished in the Top 10 RB producers. This made for arguably the single greatest rookie RB class in recent memory, not only from a realistic perspective, but also for fantasy purposes.

Is this the new trend and will we lust over the rookie class next season as we prepare for our drafts? Well, let's not jump the gun just yet. However, what we can depend on will be the spiked draft day values of the returning sophomore class. Many of these talents have already become mainstays on the fantasy football horizon.

And so today, we take a quick look back at the season that was, but more importantly gage the values of this heralded class moving forward. Follow along and in order...

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

It's sure a lot of fun to toss around opinions, eat, sleep and breathe fantasy football, but when the day is done...it's still not easy. We've gotta be on top of the game at all times, take the criticism when we're wrong and still somehow manage our own fantasy teams and hope to win our own fantasy titles.

The hard part is always dropping a post about a potential sleeper we like and then having a buddy in our league read that very post and beating us to the punch. Well, that's just life and I'm hardly complaining. And not that we like to brag or boast all too much, but when we get it right, we gotta let people know. When it comes to fantasy football, cockiness is all part of the game.

With that said I'm holding myself accountable today for some of the things I nailed this season and some of the others I completely whiffed on.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

In what should be championship week, FanHouse fantasy positional rankings are compiled in order to provide answers to your possible lineup dilemmas. If you need further assistance, please feel free to shoot us an email question.

Far too often we look at certain matchups and let it dictate how we implement our starting lineups. My theory has always been that great players make great plays. OK, I didn't really come up with that slogan, but what I do mean to suggest is that you always start your studs in fantasy football.

Case in point the Johnson boys; Calvin and Andre. Both faced difficult tests last week and both rose above and beyond the occasion. So, you might take notice as to where they sit in the ranks for this weekend. Yes, it's time to pay dues and respect to Johnson and Johnson. A couple of beasts on the field, yet mild-mannered off it, are going to help gift wrap a few fantasy titles this weekend.

Steve Smith is moving up this week, because he too is simply a marvel at times. Not much else to shake up in the Top 10, but keep an eye out for big, big games out of the Wes Welker-Randy Moss combo. My sleeper for the weekend is - gulp - Chad Johnson. Look, the matchup fits and he's due for one of those "where did that come from games." Of course, if you have better options...don't gamble.

And now let's tap into the rest of the field.

1. Calvin Johnson, NO
2. Andre Johnson, @ OAK
3. Steve Smith, @ NYG
4. If you need further assistance, please feel free to shoot us an email question.

I gave up on John Carlson after Week 12. He was fresh off back-to-back clunkers and besides I had the emerging Dustin Keller waiting in the wings. Fast forward to today and now Keller has hit the skids, while Carlson has gone off for 19 catches, 250 yards and a TD over the past three weeks.

Yes, playing the tight end field in fantasy football is all about catching the hot hand. And Carlson along with Dallas Clark and Tony Gonzalez qualify as hot hands and surefire bets this weekend. If you're looking to gamble a lit bit this weekend (not always highly advised for the playoffs), give Jeremy Shockey another chance...it's the Lions. Also, look to Jerramy Stevens against the Chargers who frequently get torched by tight ends.

The usual suspects Antonio Gates and Jason Witten draw a couple of tough matchups, but you have to trust your studs. Gates got a little more involved last weekend and Witten put up decent numbers, considering the swirling controversy. You drafted these guys high for a reason and it happens to be this weekend.

And now for the rest of the ranks...

1. Tony Gonzalez, MIA
2. John Carlson, NYJ
3. Dallas Clark, @ JAC
4. Jason Witten, BAL
5. Antonio Gates, @ TB

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Hey, it's go time folks. That's right, it's playoff time. There's very little time to prepare as the games start coming at you four days a week. You've gotta be on your toes -- there's no more gambling, no more getting cute. You roll the dice with what you've got and hope for the best.

Another week of fantasy football is in the books. And chances are you fit into one of few camps right now -- you're either really depressed and your season is over, or you're ecstatic and live to fight another day. Either way, it's the beginning of the end on a great season of fantasy football. The long journey was well worth the ride, win or lose.

However, let's not close the book just yet. Oh no, this coming weekend marks the championship/money round for many folks. And as you ignore Christmas shopping, work and family to quietly prepare for this all-important week ... be sure to follow the trends of Week 15.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

Not much shakeup at the top, except for one surprise. Yes, it's time to bump Antonio Gates down just a peg. Let's face it, anytime your star tight end puts up a goose egg as he did against Oakland in a critical game, something must give.

The great Tony Gonzalez continues to ride out the hot streak, and he just loves playing the Chargers. Look for Jason Witten and Tony Romo to get back on the same page this weekend after they both took blame for the collapse in Pittsburgh last week.

Climbing up the tight end ladder this week is an old familiar face in Jeremy Shockey. Let me explain. Since he took the scolding from Drew Brees on the sideline against Atlanta, here are his averages in the past four games; five receptions per game and 53 yards per game. Yup, he hasn't scored a TD yet this season, but it could be coming Thursday night against Chicago.

Welcome back to earth Dustin Keller. You can thank your QB for the slippage this week. And now let's tap into the rest of the rankings.

1. Tony Gonzalez, SD
2. Jason Witten, NYG
3. Chris Cooley, @ CIN
4. Dallas Clark, DET
5. Tony Scheffler, @ CAR

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

Diving right into this week's all-too-important receiver rankings, the clear choice was to keep Larry Fitzgerald on top. Yup, he has a history of sealing fantasy titles in the crucial weeks of the season. And this week he gets to go against a subpar Vikings pass defense that can be exploited.

This is it for Reggie Wayne. His owners (like myself) are at wits end, but we'll all rest easy as he's in line for a huge day against the <strike>laughingstock of the NFL</strike> Lions. Patience will once again pay off for all those who stuck with the Colts' struggling offense in the early part of the season, as I fully expect Peyton Manning to also reward Wayne's buddies Marvin Harrison and Anthony Gonzalez.

Not much shakeup in the Top 10, but there is one thing to note before you dismiss Terrell Owens this weekend. Since joining the Cowboys, in five games against the Giants he has 430 receiving yards and six TDs. So, you get my drift ... he's a "must" start. Lastly, you'll notice the Jets receivers plummeting in these rankings. Well, there's a reason, and that it is they both have been terrible lately. Seriously, you should find other options.

And now with the rest of the ranks.

1. Larry Fitzgerald, MIN
2. Steve Smith, DEN
3. Reggie Wayne, DET
4. Anquan Boldin, MIN
5. Brandon Marshall, @ CAR

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

And for many, that means the beginning of the fantasy football playoffs.

"Wow." That's one thing that can be said of what just took place on MNF. These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

The separation between Tony Gonzalez and his counterparts this year can't be measured simply be the disparate statistical gap. In the preseason buzz, when everyone was content that Jason Witten had finally overtaken Antonio Gates as the "must have" tight end, many forgot about Gonzo. Yup, we all heard were the whispers about the "Big 2," and oh my how we all forgot this was still the "Big 3."

Gonzo has delivered reliable lines every single week to serve as a reminder. At this point in the season, it's nearly impossible to pry him from the head and shoulders above all No. 1 ranking. And we should expect him to punish Denver this weekend and reward all those who just knew there was gas left in the tank. The tight end position continues its whirlwind of flux, but now more than ever you have gotta award two key rookies as they close in on the upper echelon. Yes, Dustin Keller and John Carlson continue to pay dividends and are knocking on the fantasy stardom door. Can't you hear them knocking?

It's been said in this space for the past few weeks, but outside of Gonzo there is no hotter commodity at tight end right now than Keller and that's why he makes the leap into the top five this week. He continues to be prime target for Brett Favre as he and his receivers struggle to get on the same page.

As for Antonio Gates, you've gotta think history is on his side with the Raiders, but for Jason Witten it's hard to feel so comfortable when one has to face the Steelers. The list for solid TE matchups actually goes fairly deep this week. Even if you were to roll out Jeremy Shockey against Atlanta, that wouldn't be all that bad. That means... you shouldn't have to dig all that deep to find your security blanket for this all important fantasy weekend.

And now on with the ranks...

1. Tony Gonzalez, @ DEN
2. Dallas Clark, CIN
3. Antonio Gates, OAK
4. Dustin Keller, @ SF
5. Jason Witten, @ PIT

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

Surprise, surprise. Look what favorite tandem is back on top. Well, let's be honest, the dynamic duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin has been on top all season and haven't disappointed. Moving forward they'll both continue to sit on the throne, as they get to carve up a soft, soft schedule for your playoff journey. Go ahead and take a deep sigh of relief if you own either guy, because you're sitting pretty.

As for the remainder of the top-10 receiver rankings, it's a bit of a slight shakeup this week. You may recall, I've often said you can put the best fantasy receiver names into a hat or shuffle them like a deck of cards to pick the order, but not this week. Creeping his way back into the mix would be Randy Moss. Often given the cold shoulder in this space, Moss is primed to shred the Seabird collapsing defense.

A usual mainstay and fantasy animal, Andre Johnson has been pushed just out of the top 10 for this week only, based on my timid fears of the Green Bay secondary. And yes, I know said secondary has been torched the past few weeks. Ahem.

If you're looking for the clever play of the week, I'm going with Marvin Harrison. Yup, he's done minimal damage this season, but something tells me the Bengals are in for Manning torture 101 this weekend. And despite the fact that you may see Reggie Wayne down a peg in a few "other" sites' ranks ... I'm just not feeling that at all. My prediction is big games all around for Harrison and Wayne just like it's circa 2004 all over again.

And now on with the rest of the ranks...

1. Larry Fitzgerald, STL
2. Anquan Boldin, STL
3. Greg Jennings, HOU
4. Reggie Wayne, CIN
5. Roddy White, @ NO

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Also, worth the mention is that the next two weeks should bode very well for the two headed attack of <strike>Crockett and Tubby</strike> Chris Johnson and LenDale White. The Browns can't stop anyone on the ground and although their getting better, the Texans haven't quite proved to be a daunting task to run on. However, come Championship week - you may want to proceed with caution as the league's #1 defense will surely be focused on stopping the Titans vaunted running game and forcing Kerry Collins to beat them. As they say it's smooth sailing before rough waters, venture with caution.
The must-starts: Chris Johnson
The likely start: LenDale White, Rob Bironas
The spot-start: Bo Scaife
The no-starts: Justin Gage, Kerry Collins, Brandon Jones, Justin Mccareins, Alge Crumpler
The D/ST: Hmm, they've been a unbreakable at times this season, but have also shown recent vulnerability. Hey, it's go time folks. That's right, it's playoff time. There's very little time to prepare as the games start coming at you four days a week. You've gotta be on your toes -- there's no more gambling, no more getting cute. You roll the dice with what you've got and hope for the best.

Well, here's what I picked up on during the course of Week 13. And hopefully, moving forward we can all take something from this and move one step closer to the prize. I'll set the foreplay aside and just roll right into it. Let's get down to business ... shall we?

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

The "Big Three" are back in business this week. Um, for those who aren't sure who I'm referring to -- that'd be Witten, Gonzo and Gates. Sorry, I feel I have to explain sometimes. These are the tight ends you target, but you know it's essentially a hit-or-miss each week. This season more so than any has been the year of the breakout tight end on a weekly basis. Too bad for all of us, these breakouts usually only last one game.

So, that's why it's good to turn things over to old reliables this week. Yup, you always know exactly what you're getting from Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates. However, this season has been all about injuries, ups and downs for Jason Witten. It's just impossible though to keep a good "football" player down for so long. It's time for Witten to thank all of those who've put faith in him to be the man.

You also may have noticed the new flavor of the month for tight ends in Dustin Keller. Yes, D.K as I'll refer to him snagged six passes for a mere 42 yards last week. However, what's obvious is that Brett Favre continues to target him and yes, even look for him in the red zone. Did we mention that the Jets get the Broncos this weekend? Yes, think about that one.

Also, worthy to note - welcome back to relevance Jeremy Shockey. These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

You could hear the collective angst building against a once-proud fantasy football legend that we know only as T.O. Yup, the whispers were lingering whether Terrell Owens had finally lost a step and was no longer ready to claim his rightful place on the mantle of fantasy worship. Well, T.O answered his critics and the concerns of the many fantasy owners who were banking on him leading their team home.

Yes, Randy Moss also came out of the shadows last week to deliver a rear-back the clock type of performance his owners had also patiently been waiting for. As a fantasy enthusiast, I say welcome back fellas... took you long enough. However, the next question that we beg is if they can sustain the momentum? Was last week just a flash of that good ol' brilliance?

Hmm, good question that I'll go ahead and field with a definitive "these guys are back." And that's why you may have noticed my hunch on T.O's return to prominence last weekend by ranking him in my top three fantasy wideouts. However, this week with America as his stage... I see another monster effort for T.O. Yup, it's just the moments like these where he tends to flourish. So, welcome back T.O... it's been a while, but you're back on top.

And for the record, despite my gushing over T.O... I do NOT own him in any league. You'll find the other obvious names lodged at the top of the list.

Let's hit the rest of the ranks...

1. Terrell Owens, SEA
2. Anquan Boldin, @ PHI
3. Reggie Wayne, @ CLE
4. Greg Jennings, CAR
5. Larry Fitzgerald, @ PHI

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

by Sean Lalley
Ah yes, another week in the books, but it just wouldn't be complete without a MNF scoring barrage. Yup, plenty of fantasy football implications going on right now with the Packers and the Saints. For the record, I watched two potential victories explode early on. However, what did I really expect clinging to a small margin and having to face Greg Jennings and Ryan Grant in one league and Pierre Thomas in another?

Deep sigh, but at least there's always next week. And for some of us next week might mean the playoffs. Yes, we're talking playoffs. Of course, there just may be one more week for survival and/or the last chance to make the playoffs for others. It's been a fun ride thus far, but brace yourself for the intensity and/or anxiety to pick up starting this Thursday. Yet, for now, it's time to take a tour as we do on Monday night and let the dust settle. Let's check the pulse of the fantasy football world and dish out some thoughts moving forward.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

by Sean Lalley
As we do every week, it's time to take a look at a few underachieving stars or marginal starters and determine if they'll be of any assistance moving forward. Ultimately the decision is up to you, but let our thoughts sink in before you make your decision. Roster space is valuable in fantasy football and sometimes it's hard to part ways, but then again sometimes you just gotta do it. Yup, it's time for another installment of sink or swim.

For starters, I'll toss out a few obvious names that you can go ahead and cut from your rosters: Earnest Graham and Felix Jones. Season-ending injuries to those key running backs may throw a twist at a few fantasy playoff rosters. However, you've just gotta keep on keeping on. And now for today's guests on the "sink or swim" ledge... Chad Johnson, Eli Manning and Jake Delhomme. Yup, a few obvious names are up for discussion and let's not waste any time... time to dip right into the waters.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
