The documentary Fighting Politics is, at least based on the portions I've seen, fairly anti-UFC. In this clip, Rich Franklin makes clear that he's not personally anti-UFC. But he does wish he and other UFC fighters could make more money.

Brandon VeraAll 22 fighters will step on the scale Saturday for the UFC on Versus weigh-ins, and if you can't be there in Broomfield, Colorado, you can watch right here at MMAFighting.com.

In the main event, Brandon Vera and Jon Jones will have to make the light heavyweight limit of 205 pounds. Also worth watching will be how James Irvin, moving down from light heavyweight, looks at 185 pounds as he weighs in for his middleweight debut against Alessio Sakara.

The weigh-in begins at 6PM ET and the video is below.

Andrei Arlovski will return to the cage for the first time in almost a year on May 15 when he takes on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, and he says he hopes that fight is the first step toward getting a couple of rematches with the two guys who knocked him out in 2009, Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers.

Josh Barnett will finally return to mixed martial arts for the first time in 14 months on Monday in Japan, when he takes on the kickboxer Mighty Mo at Dream.13. He met with the press in Japan Friday to promote the fight and said he's been working on his grappling as well as the striking martial art of savate while he's been away.

James Irvin vs. Alessio Sakara is not a particularly relevant fight in the middleweight division in mixed martial arts. Neither guy is a win away, or even two or three wins away, from title contention. But it will be the first fight on UFC on Versus 1 Sunday night, and both guys show in this preview video that they understand the reason they've been matched up in the first UFC fight ever to air on Versus.

Miguel TorresDuring the March 6 WEC bout between Miguel Torres and Joseph Benavidez, an elbow from Benavidez opened an enormous cut on Torres' forehead.

Moments later, Benavidez got Torres to tap with a guillotine choke, and Torres was left covered in blood. Torres had to have a surgical procedure to repair the wound, and he posted this video of that procedure. It's obviously not something that people who get squeamish about medical procedures want to watch, but it's worth watching if you want to get an idea of just how much damage that elbow from Benavidez inflicted.

MMA veteran Claude Patrick is a happy man these days because he recently signed a multi-fight agreement with the UFC.

The 11-1 Canadian told SiriusXM Fight Club Thursday that he is still unsure when and where he will make his debut, but believes UFC 115 on June 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, is a possibility.

Patrick said that he would love to make his debut in his home country, but just getting to the UFC should be considered a major feat because in July 2008 he was injured after being tasered in a hotel room following a Freedom Fight event in Gatineau, Quebec.

Rising star Junior dos Santos is, in my view, such a talented mixed martial artist who has accomplished so much at such a young age (25) that it would be a big surprise if he doesn't win the heavyweight championship of the world some day. But there is one (pretty big) nagging question about dos Santos.

When Dan Henderson steps into the cage against Jake Shields on April 17, it will be his first fight since UFC 100, more than nine months earlier. That's the longest layoff Henderson has had in more than five years, and Henderson acknowledges that getting into peak physical condition after such a long layoff is a concern.

The co-main event at Friday night's Strikeforce Challengers card ended in disappointment, when Trevor Prangley accidentally poked Karl Amoussou in the eye and the doctor on the scene ruled that the fight had to end because Amoussou couldn't continue. Now both Prangley and Amoussou say they want to get back into the cage soon, and Strikeforce should book their rematch for its March 26 Challengers show.

It wasn't long ago that American athletic commissions thought female mixed martial artists could fight no more than three minutes at a time, in three-round fights, and that any more than nine minutes of fighting was too much for a delicate female body.

That was stupid, and it's good that women now fight five-minute rounds, just like the men do. When Takayo Hashi and Sarah Kaufman fight for the Strikeforce 135-pound women's title on Friday night they'll fight five minute-rounds, and it's a scheduled five-round fight. Hashi says she's ready to go 25 minutes if she has to.
