It doesn't matter how good your team's front office is, the NHL draft can still be a complete shot in the dark in which the most highly-touted, can't miss prospect can miss, and ninth-round picks that sneak under the radar because of concerns about their ability to skate at an NHL level can end up scoring over 600 goals and tallying nearly 1,400 points in a 19-year career -- kind of like Luc Robitaille.

The main press box for Rangers games at Madison Square Garden is in the lower bowl, behind one of the goals. It is here where the perfect imagery can be found to illustrate the magical play of Brian Leetch, who enters the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday.
In this press box sit men and women, some who have been to thousands of games, some perhaps new to the hockey beat. Either way, it can often be a jaded lot. But when Leetch plied his craft as a defenseman for the Rangers from 1988 until 2004, there were countless moments when his artistry made those four rows of tables one of the grandest places to be in sports.

Every Friday, FanHouse sifts through the rubble and picks the best NHL fight, with the help of HockeyFights.com.A light week on the card, but there was a relatively surprising bout and some pretty good ones to choose from. Highlighting it is our favorite former Princeton player, a gentleman who has made a name for himself by being a really good fighter. Of course, the big news of the week involved a team captain dropping the gloves with a random defenseman.

During
Wednesday's edition of Newsmakers, I made a brief mention of the insanity that unfolded in the third period of Tuesday's
Rangers-
Canucks game, and the video is perhaps even better than I could have ever imagined.
Just over four minutes into the period, with the
Canucks leading 1-0, 17 players found their way onto the ice (10
Rangers, seven Canucks) and exchanged pleasantries at center ice. Once order appeared to be restored for a few seconds,
Sean Avery had words with the Canucks bench, and before you knew it, he was stealing
Shane O'Brien's stick (after O'Brien tried to spear him with it) and throwing it on the ice.
Video of the mayhem after the jump.

UNIONDALE, NY --
New York Rangers sniper
Marian Gaborik will miss Wednesday night's game against the
Islanders. Gaborik suffered what appeared to be a leg injury in the third period of New York's win over Phoenix on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
"He won't be playing tonight,"
Rangers coach John Tortorella said after Wednesday's morning skate at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. "I'm not going to get into what he has."

NEW YORK -- With each goal
Marian Gaborik scores, with each goal he sets up -- two goals and one assist Monday in the
Rangers' 5-2 win over Phoenix -- it's impossible to not think about the most startling trade of the offseason.
The deal that had nothing to do with Gaborik, yet everything to do with the Rangers signing Gaborik.

Devils 4, Rangers 2: With a shutout on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden,
New Jersey Devils goaltender
Martin Brodeur would have
tied Terry Sawchuk's record for most career shutouts. While the future Hall of Famer will have to wait for another night to reach his next milestone, he still managed to stop 29 shots to help lead the
Devils to a 4-2 win.
Zach Parise scored a pair of goals -- and assisted on another -- as New Jersey handed the
Rangers their second straight loss. The Devils, meanwhile, have won five of their past six.

NEW YORK -- With the Yankees in the ALCS, the Giants contending for another Super Bowl appearance and the ups and downs of Mark Sanchez captivating the city, the 7-1 start of the Rangers had fallen under the New York radar.
So it's only fair not to make too big a deal of the Rangers getting their doors blown off by San Jose on Monday night in a 7-3 loss at Madison Square Garden. Just like the seven-game winning streak, this too shall pass.
"As bad as it was, it's just one game and two points," said Rangers captain
Chris Drury.

Rangers 4, Kings 2: When the
New York Rangers signed
Marian Gaborik to a five-year contract this summer, it certainly raised some eyebrows. No one questions Gaborik's ability, as he's one of the most gifted players in the
NHL. The concern with Gaborik is that he's a good bet to miss 20-or-so games per season, usually with a groin problem. Through the first seven games of the season, Gaborik has been incredible for the
Rangers, and on Wednesday he logged over 21 minutes of ice-time, recorded three shots on goal and scored his sixth goal of the season in New York's 4-2 win.
