NEW YORK -Alex Rodriguez has been an absolute zero in the World Series so far, going 0 for 8 and striking out six times. Hardly what the three-time AL MVP expected in his first try on baseball's big stage.
But when it comes to big-hitting Yankees over the years, many of them haven't fared too well in their first two Series games.
A quick recap:
— Yogi Berra. Went 0 for 7 and struck out twice in 1947 against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
— Lou Gehrig. Went 1 for 7 with a strikeout in 1926 against the St. Louis Cardinals
— Mickey Mantle. Went 1 for 5 with a strikeout and two walks in 1951 against the New York Giants.
— Derek Jeter. Went 1 for 5 with a strikeout and walk in 1996 against the Atlanta Braves.
— Babe Ruth. Started out 0 for 10 during three World Series for the Boston Red Sox, and later got traded to the Yankees.
Joe DiMaggio was a hit from the get-go, going 4 for 9 in the first two games in 1936 against the Giants. He hit .346 that year, his best mark in 10 trips to the World Series.
