McCoy's huge game pulls Texas past A&M, 49-39

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Roddrick Muckelroy looked too tired to walk, let alone lift his arm and sing "The Eyes of Texas." The Texas linebacker and his teammates had barely survived their wildest game of the season, a 49-39 win over rival Texas A&M that kept the Longhorns' national title hopes alive and gave Colt McCoy a huge Heisman boost.

Broncos end 4-game skid with 26-6 win over Giants

DENVER (AP) — Four weeks after getting ripped for taunting opponents during warmups, Denver coach Josh McDaniels was caught on TV cursing at his bumbling Broncos. This time, he was the object of an apology from the NFL Network instead of league-wide criticism for jawing with San Diego's linebackers. Oh, and the Broncos finally won a game again, beating the New York Giants 26-6 on Thursday night.

Fulmer, other big-name coaches looking for jobs

Phillip Fulmer is ready to go. He's got a staff picked out, a wealth of knowledge gained over a year spent picking the brains of other football coaches and he's even kept up on recruiting. All the former Tennessee coach needs now is a job. But that might be hard to come by this year because relatively few college football teams are likely to be in the market for a coach. And most of the spots that do come open probably won't meet Fulmer's standards.

Utah player takes in younger brother

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Shaky Smithson feels as if he's been switching positions since he arrived at Utah. Receiver to running back, then back to receiver and sometimes quarterback, Smithson has lined up wherever the Utes needed him. The biggest switch of all has been at home, where Smithson has gone from big brother to legal guardian of Anthony Smithson, his 15-year-old brother.

Packers' Woodson has near-flawless Thanksgiving

DETROIT (AP) — Charles Woodson had a day most people could only dream of enjoying. He returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown, recovered a fumble he forced and had a sack to help the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 34-12 on Thursday.

Big plays boost Cowboys to 24-7 win over Raiders

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Big play after big play on offense. Dominating defense throughout the game. While good defense had been a constant for the Dallas Cowboys this season, the NFC East leaders finally saw a much-needed resurgence from Tony Romo and the offense, which had 10 plays of at least 20 yards and piled up a season-high 494 yards in a 24-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.

Final hurdle coming for TCU to become BCS buster

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The city of Fort Worth is turning the river near campus purple, and a spot in the Bowl Championship is waiting for the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs if they can complete their first undefeated regular season in 71 years. All they have to do is beat a one-win New Mexico team on Saturday.

Pirates pitcher digs spikes into farming policy

WASHINGTON (AP) — An e-mail requesting an internship arrived at the Agriculture Department this summer with an impressive resume: Princeton University degree in operations research and financial engineering, 3.8 college GPA, 1520 SATs. Ross Ohlendorf didn't mention his 95 mph sinking fastball, but it probably wouldn't have hurt his chances. Department officials were impressed that the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher wanted to work for them in the offseason.

Latest concussion doesn't worry Roethlisberger

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger played one of the worst games of his NFL career one week after sustaining a concussion in 2006. He is days removed from his fourth concussion in four years, an uncommonly high number even for an NFL player. Regardless, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is going through "a normal week" of preparation for a pivotal game at Baltimore on Sunday night and has every intention of playing.

Johnson leads No. 22 Minnesota over No. 12 Butler

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Damian Johnson had 18 points and No. 22 Minnesota earned its first win away from home this season, beating No. 12 Butler 82-73 on Thursday in the first round of the 76 Classic. The Golden Gophers (4-0) held off the Bulldogs by making five 3-pointers in the final 8 minutes.
