NEW YORK -The New York Yankees might look rock solid, but the concrete at their new stadium is drawing extra scrutiny amid a probe of construction companies.
Concrete ramps at the $1.5 billion ballpark have been troubled by cracks this summer.
The New York Times reports that the team is trying to determine whether there was something wrong with the cement, or the installation and design of the ramps. The Yankees host the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night in Game 6 of the American League championship series.
The inquiry comes after the owners of a company involved in designing the concrete mix were indicted on charges that they either faked or failed to perform some required tests.
A team spokeswoman says the cracks are a cosmetic issue and the ramps are safe.

That was a typographical error. I meant to say kids were banging their bats against the concrete. My uncle reminded me that he bought an official Yankee jacket at a sporting goods store for $20. He said when Catfish Hunter signed with the Yankees, the price of ML jackets went up to $40. I guess we now know where the money is going to. It's to pay the free agents who get millions of dollars.

THarringer you're right. Also if you mix sand with concete you'll eliminate most cracks. That's what may have occured. Belive it or not, if you put straw into the mix, it will make it stronger. Some stucco houses even use clay, mud, concrete, sand and straw and can last for about a hundred years. 100 percent concrete will easily crack. It could be they hired temps as construction workers and didn't know ********** probably cosmetic. I remember in 1973 at the right field stands under right field decks having cracks as hid were banging their bats on bat day. My father told me not to do it so I didn't. Those were the days when you went to bat day and it was a double header and the bat had a player's engraved autograph instead of the cheapie you get today. Hot dogs at Yankee Stadium were 25 cents and they had 55 bleachers although we opted for $3 seats in right field. Those were the days.

This sort of karmic, the place was stolen from the city of NY, and since they stole the only ball field the kids had to play. Its only right that the place is falling apart...

This article is both paltry and pretty worthless. It presents no news or data other than there are some cracks in some ramps.

It doesn't identify the design engineers, the concrete company, the contractors, or what tests may may been falsified or omitted.

The author apparently has no clue about construction. He/she needs to stay in the fashion columns. Maybe he/she knows something about the newest slipper to hit the shelves at Sears.
