Florida increases Spikes suspension to full game

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes has had his suspension for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of a Georgia running back increased to a full game.
Coach Urban Meyer says it was in the best interest of the team for Spikes to serve a full-game suspension when the top-ranked Gators play Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Meyer had faced some criticism for only suspending his All-American linebacker for only the first half the Vandy game. The Southeastern Conference accepted the original punishment.
Spikes stuck his hand into the facemask of Georgia's Washaun Ealey during Florida 41-17 victory against the Bulldogs last week. There was no penalty called at the time, but Meyer went back and looked at the play of tape and decided to punish Spikes.

I root for the Gators but have to ************** the video of Spikes trying to poke the other players eyes was disturbing...I think the punishment is just and hope it will send a message to players of all teams to stop this kind of sick behavior!

This is just another case wherea player has gone too far but rests comfortably in the knowledge that all he will get is a wrist-slap from a Coach who is terrified of offending his Alumni and the College "Leaders" who look for that BCS Bowl Money. All theese comments from "Fans" defending the indefensible do a disservice to the game of Football. The platers would be better off playing bareheaded asa it would eliminate spearing penalties and any attempts of thuggishness would result in removal from the Team. Maybe, then , we could start recruiting student-Athletes rather than these thugs who pose as students until they can make the NFL draft. A sad situation ,indeed.

you ask if there is any video evidence of Spikes being "poked " in the eye---I would assume not because if there was I am sure Gator haters would of destroyed that tape by now ----and so you are saying if it wasn't gotten on tape it didn't happen. ??? Oh, ok --makes sense---

thank you for wanting to keep up with all the activities of the Gator football team--- and it all other players get suspended at least a game for late hits and personal fouls why is no one else from that game beign suspended because there sure was a lot of dirty playing going on in that game on both sides !!!!

I have been seeing other tapes showing up that show all kinds of dirty playing going on in the game---on both sides----but of course, only the Gators get targeted----it's the pits being # 1-----everyone is after you and all the want is to see you lose-----that is life---jealousy is such a ugly part of life
