Friedgen: Turner injures MCL in NC State loss

RALEIGH, N.C. -Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen says quarterback Chris Turner injured a ligament in his left knee Saturday in the loss at North Carolina State.

Turner injured the medial collateral ligament in his knee as he was hit by two Wolfpack defenders, one high and one low, while throwing a pass to Torrey Smith with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the first half of the 38-31 loss. He was helped off the field by the team's medical staff.

Friedgen says he isn't sure if Turner will be able to play next week against Virginia Tech because he doesn't yet know the severity of the injury.

The Atlantic Coast Conference's sixth-leading passer was 12 of 19 for 135 yards with an interception and a 1-yard touchdown run. He was replaced by sophomore Jamarr Robinson.
