-ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says Griese will not be working a game this week.
Krulewitz says ESPN has spoken to Griese and "he understands the comment was inappropriate."
During ESPN's broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, a graphic was shown listing the top five drivers in NASCAR's points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, who is Colombian.
Griese replied he was "out having a taco."
He has twice apologized on air for the remark.
Montoya is declining to comment on Griese's suspension. He brushed off the remark Sunday, and said he'd never heard of Griese.
ESPN is owned by The Walt Disney Co.

Ridiculous. This country needs MORE comments like that so we can go back to having English as AMERICA'S language and have less Juan Pablos and more Richards or Jimmys

Why over the top. Griese has never had a misstep of this nature in his public life. Sit him down and explain to him why it was wrong, tell him never to do it again, and pat him on the back as you send him out the door. He already knew it was inappropriate and rest assured it will not happen again. This is a good man and we all know it!

It was hard to see the pts on that graphic. I suppose as of today Juan Pablo Montoya is No. 5. As of Sat., October 24th, I don't know where he was. Perhaps if Bob Griese would have given the correct response we all would know, and it would have cut down on all the confusion. Instead, he had to be the man with the jokes.

It takes a lot of stupidity on the part of ESPN to castigate a man of Bob Griese's caliber who conducts himself with the utmost of class and is highly regarded by all.
