The ONLY time an official should be putting hands on a player or manager/coach is to break up some altercation. As has been noted in the article someone was suspended for having the bill of his hat "brush" that of the umpire. A simple comment to the player, the arguement is over or you will not finish the game is sufficient. If the player can't get the message then he gets tossed. But the quality of the call aside I have watched the event and can tell you the player's arguing was WAY SHORT of ejection status. So the remarks that "iI was just trying to keep him in the game " is a little bogus in my estimation.

Rule is no hands on players........No matter if he mend nothing by it, he broke the rules og the game...Now should he be punished by firing him? No If he does it agoan, mis-take or not, then yes, he needs to go.

So if Jerry Manuel just apologized he wouldn't get suspended either? YEAH - RIGHT!

Give me a break! The ump didn't committ any sin on this one. Sometimes big boys need to be treated as little boys and that was the case here. This man is a fine umpire and shouldn't get a black eye over this.
