ORLANDO, Fla. -A fight over the shoes Michael Jordan's son will wear at the University of Central Florida has cost the school any future sponsorship with adidas.
"The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas," adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward."
Freshman guard Marcus Jordan wore a pair of white Air Jordans during UCF's 84-65 win in an exhibition game against Saint Leo on Wednesday night, the Orlando Sentinel reported on its Web site. Jordan has said he will only wear his father's Nike Air Jordan shoes because they hold special meaning to his family.
UCF is in the final year of a five-year contract with adidas that requires coaches and athletes to use the company's apparel and equipment.
"We are disappointed to learn that adidas has chosen to discontinue its relationship with UCF Athletics," the school said in a statement Wednesday night released by spokesman Joe Hornstein. "Once we receive official notice we will be able to further respond."

What a great opportunity for NIKE! How dumb can Adidas be! I hope Nike picks up the deal! What a ridiculous, inflexible, stance by Adidas! My hat goes off to Jordan's kid! Nothing wrong with honoring the greatest basketball player/dad in the history of the game! The kid, I read somewhere, is also on an academic scholarship!

Adidas did the right thing. Hope Jordan is the best player they could have gotten because he sure cost them a lot of money. Oh, BTW, Nike is trash. Cheaply produced, ill fitting garbage. With a full household of kids the one rule we had regarding athletic equipment in our house was no athletic shoes or sneakers make by Nike. Why? Because they almost always went bad. Golf shoe soles routinely come unglued from uppers. Soccer cleats split at side seams or stitching fails. Baseball and soccer shoes both have detaching sole problems. Junk, junk, junk.

They have a contract with Adidas, but they break the contract, fo figure. For a college, that's suppose to teach values among other things, way to go.

Jordan,s son is selfish. This is a team sport. Wear the shoes but quit the team.

Played right into UCF's hands. Probably had an option to renew...Let me guess Nike will pick them up now that they have a Jordan.

What a ridiculous, selfish position for Jordan's kid to take, and how stupid and shortsighted of the school not to mandate he wear Adidas or leave the team. TEAM. SCHOOL. Those are the concepts that should prevail here, not the selfish support of one of the richest athletes in the world. Hope MJ has the decency to step in and either pick up the slack for UCF personally or convince Nike to do so.
