If there were any speculation Bob Stoops was on the move, the Oklahoma coach showed his commitment to the future of the University of Oklahoma. For at least this year, the speculation can come to an end.

On Tuesday, Coach Bob Stoops issued a statement to not only Sooner Nation but the football world.

"To end speculation here in the heart of recruiting, I want to make it clear that I am not interested in any other coaching positions at this time," he said. "I am too excited about our future at Oklahoma and the program we're continuing to build."

In Peterson's three year tenure at Oklahoma, AD has suffered ankle and collarbone injuries. Though the junior has amassed 4,045 yards and 41 TDs in 31 games played, although in a 3 game period in 2005 Peterson carried only 16 times.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

The following day, the Sooners named wide receiver Paul Thompson, again quarterback. Thus, the Sooners were dropped by many college football pollsters, falling ten spots before losing a game.

2. The Blind Duck Call: If you haven't seen the worst call in college football in 2006, well here it is. Its clear cut the 85-year old Pac-10 Official, Gordon Riese got it wrong - Oklahoma recovered the ball, Oregon would have never had an opportunity to score seven. Then again, you can't argue Oklahoma had an opportunity, with a nice Reggie Smith kick return only to have a Garrett Hartley final second blocked field goal. Oregon wins, the Sooners again suffer the second blow in six 6 weeks. One of the craziest, statements to come from the Oregon debacle is the David Boren's open letter, particularly the fourth action suggested.

Oklahoma's superstar running back Adrian Peterson has made it clear - he is coming back for the Fiesta Bowl. "I love the game. That's why I play," Peterson said Wednesday, in his first public statement since his collarbone injury in an October 14 win over Iowa State.

For some Oklahoma fans that's not enough. Peterson a junior this year is short 151 yards of breaking Oklahoma's all-time career rushing record of Billy Sims at 4,118 yards. A 2007 Peterson return to Norman, would mean a mature Oklahoma team, and a certain contender for the National Championship.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Days prior to the 2006 season, there was no question that Oklahoma's quarterback for the next two years was Rhett Bomar. Now Oklahoma fans can re-enter the debate on local sport radio, the quarterback of the future - reminisce the past Thompson or Bomar '05 battle. Now only, the local all-sports quarterback Sam Bradford or the touted Michigan quarterback Keith Nichol - but lets not forget JUCO quarterback Joey Halzle.

With the future quarterback comparisons of yesterday and today. Oklahoma's yesterday quarterback Rhett Bomar to incoming freshman Keith Nichol, Sam Bradford to UT's today Colt McCoy, or just Halzle to Heupel. Nichol a quarterback most Oklahoma fans have not seen -- doesn't make any sense for most to make any comparison.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Here are Oklahoma's keys to victory.

1) AP 25/175 - Oklahoma's ground game lead by running back, Allen Patrick - should give the Huskers a steady dose of AP. If Patrick rushes at least 25 times and 175 yards, the Oklahoma well-oiled offense should be right on track with the game plan.

2) Trickery - Both Coaches, Bob Stoops and Bill Callahan are accustomed to trick plays, especially Nebraska as of late... Nebraska pulled six plays out the hat in a win over Colorado last week. Which team's track plays, and their effectiveness will go a long ways in determining a victor.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

With the Oklahoma wind blowing from the north adding a bite didn't help a Buffalo offense that produced only one completion for six yards and one interception through the air in the first half. Oklahoma went on to defeat Colorado 24-3.

The Oklahoma defense played consistent Saturday night, nothing flashy -- controlling the line forcing pressure on the Colorado offense. As the Sooners' defense allowing only five first downs, and 113 yards offensively. Of course, the Colorado offense has been less than stellar this year, ranking 115th passing, 30th rushing and 106th in scoring offense entering Norman. A good Sooners' defense looked dominate over a beleaguered Colorado offense that scored only in the fourth quarter. Colorado could have played another four quarters, maybe would have scored another field goal or two with that being generous.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

The Boz, Brian Bosworth best known for his wild hairstyles, and being arrogant was the face of the defense in latter Barry Switzer days. Bosworth winner of two Butkus awards as the nation's top collegiate linebacker was upended by his wife of 12 years, Katherine Bosworth. Katherine filed for a divorce in the Los Angeles Superior Court, as the couple separated July '06.

TMZ.com Reports, according to documents obtained.

Katherine Bosworth, who has chosen to represent herself in court, has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from The Boz. While Katherine has requested joint custody of their three children, the couple's money and property will be divided up based on their mediated pre-nuptial agreement.

Bosworth gained notoriety for testing positive for steroids in 1986, then subsequently being banned, and dismissed from the University of Oklahoma. In addition, for being one the NFL's biggest flops after a injury suffered in a 1988 Monday Night Football game. Bosworth after being blasted by Oakland Raider running back, Bo Jackson ran over "The Boz" for a touchdown. Bosworth later announced his retirement in the third year of a ten year deal.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

The Sooner Nation was dealt a major blow Saturday in a 34-9 win over Iowa State. As superstar running back, Adrian Peterson suffered a season ending collarbone injury. Peterson on a very special day, with his father in attendance for his first game since being incarcerated since Adrian's 12th birthday, rushed for 183 yards, two touchdowns.

The father that called his son All-Day, the son rose to the occasion on that day making the father proud, scoring Oklahoma's first and final touchdowns in dominating fashion. In his probable last game in a Sooner uniform, the Junior finished in spectacular fashion just short of breaking coveted Oklahoma rushing records.

For Sooner fans, the matter is Adrian Peterson, the heart and soul of Sooner nation. For some Oklahoma fans, "Adrian is dead," said one Sooner fan. Only does Sooner fans hope to see him in Crimson and Cream, again.

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

The 14th-ranked Sooners travel south to face seventh-ranked and defending National Champions Texas Longhorns. The last time Oklahoma faced the defending National Champions in the Red River Shootout was Texas' last championship 1970, the Sooners went on to beat the Longhorns in 1971 48-27.

Now in 2006, Texas is again National Champions, coming off a year they snapped the five-year winning streak Oklahoma had over the Longhorns. With the post Vince Young era and post Chuck Long offensive era, has restored confidence in Sooner Nation. Look for an improved Oklahoma offensive with a healthy Adrian Peterson. Oklahoma is lead by their quarterback Paul Thompson, who has proved any doubters wrong, so far. More importantly, Thompson has the Sooners entrusted in him.

For the Sooners' defense, how consistent will they be? Oklahoma must contain Texas in the middle of the field, not allowing the big run, in addition pressuring young Colt McCoy. And what Sooner fans fear most, the Sooners' defensive backs getting burned by the UT receivers, Oklahoma coverage must be consistent. Anyone's guess is as good as mine, which Oklahoma defense will show up today. I believe it'll be a good day though.

Oklahoma Keys to Victory

Adrian Peterson - Two touchdowns, 150 yards Oklahoma likely wins... Three or four touchdowns and over 200 yards, Oklahoma fans will be happy.

Paul Thompson - Two touchdowns with no turnovers, in addition to AD Oklahoma wins..Though, it could be a breakout game for PT? BUT the third key.

Oklahoma Defense - Play consistent, or disregard previous two or bump the stats a couple drives or three... PLAY D!

Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
