Hey, What Do Ya Know? Justin Timberlake Is Hosting a PGA Tour Event

To be completely honest, I didn't even know Justin Timberlake played golf until late last year when a buddy called to tell me he was the group behind him on a Las Vegas golf course. After that, the flood gates opened when Timberlake appeared with Matt Lauer and Tony Romo at the U.S. Open contest earlier this year and is now set to host a PGA Tour event starting tomorrow in, you guessed it, Las Vegas.

The proclaimed six-handicapping is the host of the, deep breath, Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open which starts tomorrow at TPC Summerlin with such notables as Woody Austin, Paul Azinger, Davis Love III and John Daly. Surprised by the last one? Well, it turns out Daly and Timberlake are good buddies, even playing in the pro-am on Monday together.

Both hail from Tennessee and became friends about 10 years ago, when Timberlake first picked up the sport. Even when he was still a high handicapper, Timberlake told Daly he was going to become a good golfer.

"And he has. Now his handicap is around a six, I think, and he knows the rules, he knows the game," Daly added. "He's a great guy. We like to hang out, and it's just great to have his name on this tournament."

Amanda Beard Thinks Michael Phelps is 'Eww'

When you're the most popular athlete person on the planet right now, it's hard for someone to knock you down a notch.

No worries, that is what swimmers allergic to clothes are for. Two-time gold medal winner, former Playboy cover girl and occasional Mr. Ed extra Amanda Beard was asked on Tuesday about America's baby Michael Phelps and if they were at all a medley team outside the agua.

Beard, 26, denied yesterday that she was dating Phelps, 23, saying, "Eww, that's nasty."

"I have never, ever hooked up with Michael Phelps," Beard said via telephone from Beijing on the "Johnjay and Rich Show," which is broadcast on Kiss FM 104.7 in Phoenix.

Honestly, there couldn't be a more American moment than in the wake of one of the greatest sports feats in our history, we have tabloids and radio shows talking about "hooking up."

Let's make sure we have this correct about Phelps. Facebook questions? Check. Celebrities trying to draw attention away from his incredible accomplishment? Check and check. Hearing that a swimmer isn't another swimmer's type? Check.

Ok, I'm ready for Thursday.

U.S. Swimming Trials Day Six Wrap-Up: Beard Earns a Spot; Phelps, Lochte Blow Field Away

We're covering the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials all week.

Thursday night's swimming trials action was all about the upsets. But Friday was about the battles between the favorites.

There really wasn't a big upset on Friday, but we did see plenty of top performances. Rebecca Soni, a disappointment in the 100 meter breastroke, lived up to expectations as she won the 200 meter breaststroke. Amanda Beard, who now splits her time between being a Playboy model, a Go Daddy girl and occasional hops into the pool, showed that she's still able to challenge for a medal, as she qualified for her fourth Olympics by finishing second.

Olympic Trials Preview: Women's 100 Meter Breaststroke

Over the next few days we will be previewing the races that will take place at the U.S Olympic Swimming Trials.

Women's 100 Meter Breaststroke

What to watch for:
Power and precision are absolutely essential for the 100 meter breaststroke. Look for swimmers with long strokes who are low to the water and look more like a master jeweler than a frog. A unique part of a breaststroke take is the underwater pullout. Swimmers are allowed a single stroke underwater off of the start and each wall and athletes who are efficient at the underwater pullout will have an advantage over those who do not.

Amanda Beard GoDaddy Commercial

Say this for Amanda Beard: She knows how to market herself. I mean, this isn't even an Olympic year, and we've heard her name many, many times in 2007. Beard's fame has now led to this GoDaddy commercial:

The commercial, I think you'll agree, is a bit of a disappointment, although the appearance from Mark Spitz is inspired. Assuming Beard makes the Olympic team in 2008, I think we'll be hearing a lot more from her next year.

Amanda Beard: Your New Go Daddy Girl

Amanda Beard has accumulated more than her share of impressive accolades in her relatively short life -- two-time Olympic gold medalist, NCAA champion, Playboy cover girl -- but her latest accomplishment elevates her to the upper echelons of pop culture royalty: she's been added to Bob Parsons's illustrious stable of Go Daddy Girls.

From her new blog on GoDaddy.com, Amanda talks about the thrill of joining fellow female sports personalities such as auto racing darling Danica Patrick and motorcycle drag racer Valerie Thompson as the "face" of the .com sales outfit:
"I know what it takes to be a champion in the pool and a cover girl in front of the cameras. But it took some help from GoDaddy.com to make me a winner on the Internet."
The question I know you're all asking -- where does Amanda go from here? If you look at the career trajectory of Go Daddy Girl #1 Candice Michelle, perhaps WWE's Monday Night Raw or Skinemax Cinemax features are next up for the seven-time Olympic medalist.

Like my mom always tells me, when you're a winner on the Internet, you can pretty much write your own ticket.

Handicapping the Hottest Female Athletes: Racecar Drivers Everywhere

Well, the man sitting here typing all this doesn't have a whole lot of credibility left after his pick to win it all made a first round tournament exit like it were a Kansas Jayhawks team in March. Shortly after that, everyone's favorite Playboy poser, Amanda Beard, was eliminated. Which now brings us to the Fab Four that's open to your vote.

Remaining are hotties Maria Sharapova, Jennie Finch, Ashley Force, and Danica Patrick. Gone are the golfers, Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer, as well as Karina Petroni, and Heather Mitts.

Sharapova vs. Finch: If this isn't a marquee matchup between two heavyweights in the female sports world, then I don't know what is. Their similarities are endless -- tall, hot, athletic, blond ... it's hard to find anything bad to say about either of them. Sharapova is more in the public eye these days, as she's still doing well in the tennis world -- in between her trips to Chernobyl. Finch has settled in as a married woman, that is, when she's not analyzing fantasy baseball. Since both of them have pretty much run through their competition up until this point, it will be a tough call. If pressed, I'd have to say Sharapova gets the nod for her immediate presence on the sports scene. Now, if I were in a room with the two of them and only had one choice, I'd probably go with Jennie. Should we all be so blessed to have such a "decision" on our hands.

Handicapping the Hottest Female Athletes, Round 3: Down Goes Beard!

Well, the Sexy 16 is officially over, the winners have been announced, and there is yet another big surprise. Let's just get right into it, shall we?

The Surprises: There is one big surprise this time around, and it has nothing to do with Allison Stokke. Instead, one of the prohibitive favorites, Amanda Beard, lost by a significant margin (66%-34%) to golfer Paula Creamer. this is essentially unfathomable, not necessarily because Creamer is less attractive than Beard (I'd argue they're pretty close), but because Beard -- thanks to her recent Playboy spread -- is definitely the most popular, exposed woman in the entire field. And she loses to ... Paula Creamer? That'd the definition of surprise, and perhaps a sad side effect of overexposure.

The Stalwarts: Other than Beard, the rest of the favorites fared well in the Sexy 16. In a sign that popularity usually still matters in these things, Maria Sharapova won rather easily over Daniela Hantuchova, who is probably more attractive than Maria, but not nearly as well-known. Jennie Finch handled Sasha Cohen, and Ashley Force took an easy win. For the second straight round, Danica Patrick barely held on, winning (53%-47%) over Natalie Coughlin and eeking her way to the third round.

The Third Round: Which brings us rather conveniently to the handicapping portion of these proceedings. Amanda Beard's loss puts just about everything in question, and it also opens the bracket for Jennie Finch to make her way all the way to the finals. She'll have a tough matchup vs. Natalie Gulbis, but is likely to win. The strongest sleeper in the field remains Ashley Force, who is a much hotter version of Danica Patrick.

Will Danica survive again? Will Finch roll to the next round? Who will be the next upset? Will you find a better use for your time? Will I feel any less creepy writing this post as the weeks irrevocably roll along?

Find out the answer to these questions and more, as the AOL Sports Hot Female Athlete Tournament reaches the third round.

Serena Williams to Pose Nude

Early in June we told you that Amanda Beard was making the dreams of many men come true by posing in Playboy. Now, we have another female athlete to cross off the list -- sort of. Serena Williams will be posing partially nude in Jane magazine. Standing with her self-proclaimed "bootylicious" backside turned towards the camera, Serena is posing with nothing but a flower covering her behind, and some silver pumps on her feet. In fact, Whudat.com MediaTakeOut has a picture of what you can expect.

We've already chronicled Serena's muscular build, and now you'll have the chance to see it all uncovered. And if Serena wasn't enough to make you jump to pick up the magazine, maybe the semi-nudes of Eva Mendes and Joss Stone, who are also scheduled to appear in the same magazine, will do the trick for you. Hey, Serena might not be No. 1 on my list, but I can definitely get down with this type of behavior. We can only hope a few other female tennis players will follow her lead.

Playboy Model and Olympic Swimmer Amanda Beard Is a UFC Fan

It's hard not to like Amanda Beard. She's a world-class athlete, she's beautiful, and she's smart.

And now there's one more reason to like her: In her free time she likes to settle in for an evening of watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship. She wrote a first-person account of her love of UFC at SI.com:

I couldn't stop watching it. I immediately became a fan and I wanted to learn everything about it. It's been more than a year now and I'm still learning. Luckily, I found a boyfriend who liked it as well, so I didn't have to be that girl sitting in her house watching it by herself. We watch it all the time now.

Yes, "luckily," Beard found a boyfriend who wanted to watch UFC with her. Because Playboy models who want to have a guy come over and watch sports on pay-per-view often have trouble finding any takers.
