Ana Ivanovic Appears on August FHM Cover

For everyone that was aesthetically disappointed in Ana Ivanovic's early exit from Wimbledon, things may be looking up a little bit -- the Serbian tennis beauty is scheduled to appear on the cover of FHM magazine. Fortunately, while she throughly enjoyed the modeling gig, she hasn't decided to quit her day job yet.
"Modelling was great fun.

"And it's great to do something different, especially when you spend so many hours of your life on a tennis court.

"But generally speaking, I'm a tennis player first. I know that one day I will be the greatest female tennis player in the world."

Zheng Jie Beats Ana Ivanovic at Wimbledon

The world's No. 1 player is out of Wimbledon at the hands of the world's No. 131 player.

Ana Ivanovic was upset by China's Zheng Jie in the most surprising result yet in this championship. Coming off her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, Ivanovic was one of the favorites entering Wimbledon, but Jie made surprisingly quick work of her, 6-1, 6-4.

As a doubles player Jie has won championships at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open, but this is the biggest win of her career as a singles player.

"This is a tough match because she has a good serve and a big forehand, so I just tried to give her the backhand more," said Jie afterward. "I'm surprised I won the match."

Ana Ivanovic Outlasts Nathalie Dechy, Survives Marathon Match at Wimbledon

Ana Ivanovic, the No. 1 player in the world, was given all she could handle by Nathalie Dechy today in their second-round match at Wimbledon, going to tiebreaks in the first two sets and needing a marathon session in the third before finally prevailing, 7-6, 6-7, 10-8.

The Serbian Ivanovic, who won the French Open two and a half weeks ago, went through a grueling ordeal, lasting nearly three and a half hours, and came so close to losing that she needed a lucky bounce to save match point in the second set.

Ivanovic, whose best performance at Wimbledon came last year when she lost in the semifinals, will next face China's Zheng Jie in the third round.

Ana Ivanovic Wins French Open

Ana Ivanovic won the French Open women's singles title today, soundly defeating Dinara Safina, 6-4 6-3, and finishing a tremendous run at Roland Garros during which she never dropped a set.

It's the first Grand Slam title for Ivanovic, the Serbian star who will be the new world No. 1 beginning next week. In a classy move, Justine Henin, the four-time French Open champion who shocked the world when she retired last month, was on hand to present Ivanovic with the trophy.

Although this French Open served as a reminder of how fall American tennis has fallen, Ivanovic has just the kind of crossover appeal to become the star in this country that she already is in much of the world. This was the signature performance of her career.

Attractive Olympian: Serbian Tennis Player (and Stamp Model) Ana Ivanovic

Olympic athletes often don't get paid to do anything other than look good. In that vein, Attractive Olympians handicaps which athletes may rake in endorsement deals after the Olympics.

Ana Ivanovic is currently the second-ranked women's tennis player in the world. Though she has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament, she has twice reached a final, losing the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open to Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova, respectively. Not bad for someone who's only twenty years old.

Her native Serbia clearly believes she has more to accomplish, as Ivanovic's image was recently placed on a postage stamp in her home country in honor of the approaching Beijing Games.

Certainly, her talent is indisputable ... but what about her looks? It would be far too noble to judge a female athlete on her accomplishments alone, so let's examine her more closely. After the jump, enjoy more photos, half-assed analysis, and the unapologetically superficial poll.

FanHouse's Top Five: That's Not English, Not Even in South Carolina

FanHouse's Top Five scans the sports blogosphere for the best posts of the last 24 hours so you don't have to. Got something for this feature? Hit us up at fanhouse@googlegroups.com.

1)
People, it's OK to be stupid. Stupidity is fun. It's carefree. It's completely devoid of the concerns many have for this world, including "U.S. Americans" and "some people" like "the Iraq, and other people like, the such as" so we will be able "to build up our future." Because when intelligent people all trying to fix the world and such as get stuck, who will they come to?

Well, not Ms. South Carolina. But I've heard arguments for keeping the confederate flag on the statehouse that were less well-reasoned than this. (Great find, PostGameHeroes.)

2)
Good friends the Mottram brothers got a shot of DeAngelo Hall's message for Chad Johnson last night, a haircut that said "I Own U 85" in considerably blocky letters. Unfortunately for DeAngelo, Chad Johnson had five catches for 83 yards and a score, and Hall got particularly burned on a slant-and-go that saw Hall leave the TV frame entirely while Johnson streaked down the sideline. It was only preseason, but it's time to get a haircut, Hall. Immediately.

3) Mr. Met is a thug. I know most of us like to apply that term only to basketball players, or football players (whichever sport you're trying to compare unfavorably to the college game that day), but far too often does the blatant thug-ism in Major League Baseball go unchecked. The latest example? Mr. Met goes on a Kyle Farnsworth-esque tirade and gets himself hauled away by stadium security as furtively as possible. What next? Mr. Met shows up at a random wedding and gets his freak on the whole night? Oh, yeah ...

4) It's a few days old now, but this Airing of Grievances post on the Rucker Tournament over the weekend is a must-read. Rucker remains a basketball pilgrimage I've yet to take, and in the meantime, posts like this will have to suffice as my experience. Great stuff.

I'm all for an appreciation of the fairer sex, but methinks Darren Rovell -- he of the usually detached, reasoned business sensibilities -- is really developing a crush on Ana Ivanovic. Like, really developing a crush.

Handicapping the Hottest Female Athletes

The geniuses at AOL Sports came up with an idea to hold a hottest athlete in sports tournament. On one side of the draw are the hottest males, and on the other are the hottest females. That's where I come in. I'm going to look into my crystal ball and tell you some of the sleepers, predict the final four and then crown who I think will be the champion. So, without further ado ...

Sleeper Picks

(8) Allison Stokke - An eight-seed for this hottie is an utter joke. With her tan and muscle tone, she'll run through opponents like the 2005 Steelers in the playoffs. Stokke might not enjoy all the publicity she's received, but over a million YouTube views of a high school interview says she'll be tough to beat no matter what.

(10) Candace Parker - She's already tested well on the Would You Do ... scale, making me think she could have some legs in this tourney. Plain and simple, she's super girl-next-door cute, and her ballin' skills make her even hotter (I don't care who she's dating).

(13) Tanith Belbin - Just look to your right and think of all the possibilities. You simply cannot beat that type of flexibility.

(16) Cassie Johnson - She gives you a reason to tune into curling. Need I say more?

Sharapova Gets Crushed by Ivanovic at French Open

Ummm, what was that everyone was talking about Maria Sharapova? She's a great champion. She's a fantastic tennis player. She's the player who ------------ got absolutely smoked today in the semifinals of the French Open, that's who she is

Sharapova sputtered and choked her way to a 6-2, 6-1 butt-kicking at the hands of 19-year old Ana Ivanovic. Sharapova looked scare, just like she did in the Australian Open final in her 6-1, 6-2 drubbing by Serena Williams, just like she did against Serena in Key Biscayne.

Sharapova will assuredly never win a French Open and will be hard-pressed to win another major. With a bevy of young players like Ivanovic who are unafraid of the over-hyped one and other players who plain don't like her - who happen to be champions, like Justines Henin and Williams - Sharapova will have to perform a personality makeover by the time she's 23 or perish under a mountain of more talented athletes who are better players than she.

The saving grace for Maria is that now she get to play on grass, her favorite surface. She loves Wimbledon, the site of her first Grand Slam tournament win as the grass is fast and her shots move through the court at a rate they never can on clay or even hard courts.

However, today the world saw that the more shots Sharapova has to hit, the worse off she is. Her lack of athleticism is exposed and her horrid forehand becomes the liability it is. And as the match winds on, as it did against Ivanovic, Sharapova even loses her nerve on her serve.

Invanovic will face Justine Henin in the French Open finals.
