Christina Kim to Appear in ESPN the Mag's Body Issue

Last month, rumors had Danica Patrick appearing in ESPN the Magazine's Oct. Body Issue, which would feature male and female athletes is various stages of undress. According to Danica's people (via CNBC.com's Darren Rovell), she's "NOT confirmed to appear in the issue, nor has she even been approached."

Still no word on Patrick's intentions, but yesterday, Golf Digest's Ron Sirak wrote that three LPGA players will appear in the magazine and, shockingly, one of them isn't Anna Rawson.

Can LPGA Survive Without Marketing Sex Appeal?

Anna Rawson has outlined her five-point plan for saving the LPGA, and, frankly, I think she's onto something. The tour is struggling to keep sponsors and it's without a marquee player to market to the masses. The former is due primarily to poor management decisions, the latter is just bad luck.

So can women's professional golf survive without a bona fide star? Will they need to rely on other, less traditional means of attracting fans? Rawson's strategy weighs elements of both while Golfweek's Alistair Tait wonders if the LPGA's future hinges on Michelle Wie.

Anna Rawson Can Fix the LPGA

Anna Rawson earned her LPGA Tour card 18 months ago. She played in 13 events in 2008, made five cuts and cashed $62,798 worth of checks. This year, she's played the weekend just three times in 11 tries, and has made $36,337.

If not for her physical appearance, Rawson's a non-story. In general, nobody cares about a professional golfer whose average tournament round is north of 73. Well, unless they look like this.

Which is the only reason Rawson remains relevant. I suppose making inflammatory comments about lesbians and ugly people doesn't hurt, either. Whatever your thoughts on Rawson the golfer, she knows how to market herself. And for the women's tour, marketing is their biggest problem. (Former commissioner Carolyn Bivens can confirm as much.)

So while Rawson shouldn't be holding any pre-tournament clinics, she's perfectly qualified to weigh in on how to fix the tour's image problem. She gives ESPN her five-step plan:

I'm not sure if you knew this, but somehow, someway, having a really attractive woman as your spokesperson does wonders for your company. GoDaddy.com understands this, and plans on adding another pretty athlete to its arsenal this weekend at the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International.

Anna Rawson, as you might remember, has been in the headlines two times in the past four months, once for successfully meandering her way through LPGA Q-School alongside Michelle Wie to get full status on tour, and again for comments she made about the past image of the LPGA.

Monday Pin Placement: It Ain't Easy Being Wie

Every Monday
during the PGA Tour season (unless one of the tournaments you're writing about is postponed due to rain and concludes on a weekday), Monday Pin Placement will run as a wrap-up of the weekend's action, with a little commentary mixed in. We'll focus on what you may have missed while you were out grinding on the putting green.

ALPG Chief: Anna Rawson 'Needs to Think Before She Opens Her Mouth'

Last we heard from Anna Rawson, she was waxing historical on an Australian radio station, explaining to the laypeople how far women's professional golf has come in the last quarter-century. Specifically, how the "tour has got so much better with so many young stars and great players," even though "the mentality unfortunately amongst the media and the industry hasn't changed."

And to prove her point, Rawson pointed out that the media still "think we're at 25 years ago when the tour was full of, you know, a lot of dykes and unattractive females nobody wanted to watch.'' If only English was Rawson's first language we could've avoided the cultural misunderstanding. Oh, wait.

Anna Rawson: LPGA No Longer Full of 'D*kes, Unattractive Females'

Anna Rawson is a lot of things: runway model, professional golfer, writer, and now, golf historian. During a recent appearance on an Adelaide radio station, the 27-year-old Aussie offered her thoughts on how the LPGA has evolved over the last quarter-century.

Leryn Franco Lands Deal With Nike

Leryn Franco is notable across the internet for two things: a poor 2008 Olympic performance and being attractive.

FanHouse Talks to Anna Rawson About the LPGA and Jamming Out to Britney Spears

Anna Rawson, one of the LPGA's newest members, recently took time to sit down with FanHouse and talk about Q-school, playing on tour, her relationship status, and what's bumping on her iPod.

Will Brinson: First of all, Anna, thanks for taking the time out to talk to FanHouse.

Anna Rawson: No problem at all.

Brinson: And congratulations, of course, on picking up your Tour Card recently. You want to tell us a little bit about Q-school and that whole experience?

Michelle Wie Off to Solid Start at Q-School, Opens With Three-Under 69

As they say in the golf world, you can't win a tournament in the first day but you can sure lose it.

Michelle Wie went with the conservative approach to the first day of LPGA Qualifying School, shooting a three-under 69 that included a birdie on her final hole. Wie is joined by 140 players that will play five rounds to decide who will advance to the LPGA with full status, partial status or no status at all.
The five-day qualifier will be played on both the Legends and Champions courses at LPGA International, with a 72-hole cut to the low-70 players and ties. Those players will then compete on Sunday on the Champions course for the final 18 holes of play.
If you make the cut, you're guaranteed some exemption into the LPGA, with the top-20 getting full exemptions. Wie is currently t-6 which obviously has her well above the cut line. Like I've said in the past, golf is all about your comfort level and it appears at Q-School, Wie is as comfortable as ever.

Anna Rawson, the other big name in the field who you might remember gave out her phone number, fired a 1-under 71, good enough for a t-18. Shiho Oyama is the clubhouse leader after an 8-under 64.
