MMA Top 10 Welterweights: Josh Koscheck Is Right, Sort Of

After his UFC 106 victory over Anthony Johnson, Josh Koscheck proclaimed that he -- not Dan Hardy -- deserves to be the next contender to Georges St Pierre's title.

As you'll see in my rankings of the Top 10 welterweights in MMA, I think Koscheck is right -- sort of. I believe Koscheck deserves to be higher-ranked than Hardy, but I also think Hardy is more deserving of a shot at St. Pierre. The reason is simple: Koscheck has already had a fight with GSP, losing to him at UFC 74. Hardy hasn't gotten his chance yet.

So because I'd like to see GSP get a new challenge, I think Hardy is a fitting No. 1 contender, even though Hardy is just below Koscheck on the list below.

Josh Koscheck Reflects on UFC 106 Victory, Clarifies Stance on Dan Hardy

LAS VEGAS -- Josh Koscheck proved that he is definitely a force to be reckoned in the UFC's welterweight division after overcoming an early illegal knee to the head and eye poke to submit Anthony Johnson in the second round at UFC 106.

FanHouse spoke to Koscheck at the post-fight press conference about getting past the early controversy and his issue with Dan Hardy getting a welterweight title shot before him. The video interview is below.

Josh Koscheck Earns $140,000 in UFC 106 Post-Fight Bonuses

Josh Koscheck may have been overlooked for a title shot, but he was well-recognized through monetary means by the UFC brass following Saturday's UFC 106 in Las Vegas.

Already, without considering his fight purse, his win bonus and earnings through sponsorships, Koscheck earned $140,000 in post-fight bonuses for his second-round rear-naked choke victory over Anthony Johnson.

UFC 106: Josh Koscheck Submits Anthony Johnson

Josh Koscheck took on a bigger, stronger, more athletic opponent and used his superior wrestling to defeat him on Saturday night in Las Vegas, submitting Anthony Johnson with a second-round rear-naked choke in a strange, foul-filled fight at UFC 106.

Johnson got the better of the stand-up in the early going, and halfway through the first round Koscheck went for a takedown. But while they were on the ground, Johnson landed both an illegal knee to the head and a poke to Koscheck's eye. That led to a lengthy delay during which referee Mario Yamasaki did not appear to know the rules regarding delays for fouls and injuries, but Koscheck did eventually say he could continue, and the fight went on.
