After the Bears made the announcement of their franchise-shattering acquisition of Jay Cutler, they didn't rest. Within a few hours, they announced they had also agreed to terms with venerable left tackle Orlando Pace. I'll admit, I was overly excited about the two new Bears, as were all my Bears fans friends -- which is weird, usually at least one of us disagrees about player movement. Make no mistake about it, though. We aren't delusional. This team is far from complete and the die-hards know it.

With the team still a decent amount below the salary cap and several holes left to fill for 2009, here's what I think the Bears should do.

David Garrard's passer rating hovered around the temperature for much of the game. When the players can see their breath, this is definitely not a good thing. He set the tone early with an interception that was so bad it actually appeared he intended to throw the pass to Danieal Manning. Manning nearly takes it to the house, and the Bears score a touchdown two plays later. So there were only two minutes and 24 seconds in this game where the Bears did not lead.

After a 20-3 halftime lead, the Bears offense was very stagnant in the second half. You actually have to go more than a month to find a second half in which the Bears offense was clicking. This concerns me, but you can use the excuse that it wasn't really needed today.

Also concerning to me -- as a Bears fan -- was the poor production in the red zone, in terms of touchdowns. This isn't going to cut it against good teams, scoring a touchdown only once in four red zone tries.

I guess you can say Dusty Dvoracek was incredibly healthy this season, as long as you take the rest of his career into account. He missed his entire rookie year, and then proceeded to tear his ACL in the first game last year. At least this year he got 11 games in before the season-ender. Yeah, I said it's over. I'm speculating, but usually coaches aren't this up front about potential injury issues:

''It was a serious injury,'' coach Lovie Smith said. ''It isn't looking good.'' This time the malady is in the big man's arm.

The blow is a potentially devastating one to the Bears. They likely can't lose a game the rest of the way in order to make the playoffs, and Dvoracek is one of the primary reasons the Bears run defense has been stout this year as opposed to the sieve they ran out last year. He's a strong run-stuffer. Hopefully Marcus Harrison and Anthony Adams can fill his shoes.

It's sad that Dvoracek keeps having this sort of bad fortune.

Really, I'm just shocked Mike Brown has made it this far. His season-ending injury is likely on deck.

Update: Yep, out for the season. The injury, in case it matters, is ruptured biceps. Ouch. Dusty really gets his money's worth when it comes to injuries.

The Bears are 2-2 and one of the early-season surprise stories. They beat the Eagles last week without one of their best players, defensive tackle Tommie Harris, who has been rehabbing a knee injury. And according to the team's web site, the Bears will again be Harris-less when they face the newly Millen-less Lions this Sunday.

Not because Harris' knee is less than 100 percent (which it is), but because head coach Lovie Smith has suspended him for, as NFL.com's Adam Schefter writes, "being late for treatment and a meeting, according to a source close to the situation."

Rest assured, though: Smith is very sad about the recent turn of events.

"It's always disappointing when you have to suspend one of your players, but nothing's bigger than the team," Smith said. ... "It's disappointing when you have to [suspend a player]," Smith said. "But as far as disrupting the team, it can't. Injuries happen. Players don't play from time to time. You have to move on. We played last week without Tommie, so we've been in that situation before."

To recap: it's disappointing.
