Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: TEs

If you're still having trouble finding a decent tight end option at this point, you're doing something wrong. The tight end position has been consistently deep and productive over the first two weeks of the season. The Big Four is becoming more like the Big Dozen -- well, maybe.

There's simply no shying away from what Dallas Clark did on Monday night. He is essentially a No. 2 wide receiver for this Colts offense with Anthony Gonzalez down and out. However, you already knew that, right? And so, we must stick to our guns for yet another week with Mr. Clark leading the tight end rankings.

Fantasy Football Week 1 Rankings: TEs

We know over the course of the season, it appears tight end is going to be a deep position, and this week there seem to be a lot of good plays. Sure, it's top-heavy, as the top four form the proverbial "Big Four," but take a look in the teens. There are plenty of viable options this week with a chance to put up numbers rivaling anyone in the top 10.

Of course, we're pretty confident Dallas Clark goes nuts against the Jags at home.

1. Dallas Clark, IND vs. JAX
2. Antonio Gates, SD at OAK
3. Jason Witten, DAL at TB
4. Tony Gonzalez, ATL vs. MIA
5. Greg Olsen, CHI at GB

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: So Long, Plaxico Burress

Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's daily gathering of links from around the web, covering the goings-on in NFL Training Camp which have an impact on fantasy value.

'Tis the season for the NFL to have breaking news almost every other day it seems. Thankfully, for Plaxico Burress, maybe - just maybe - the whole Brett Favre lovefest in Minnesota will overshadow him on this dark day. OK, who are we kidding? His story is sure to trump most anything for the next few weeks. The same Plaxico Burress who caught the winning touchdown from Eli Manning in the Super Bowl is going to prison for two years.

Yup, the same Plaxico who we used to draft on a regular basis in fantasy football is now rendered useless. And thus let's cue up the "who is gonna take Plaxico" jokes for our fantasy drafts. Shameful. This certainly leaves one to ponder if this is it for another once promising Michigan State WR. Bottom line, don't draft Plaxico.

Now, what happened around the camps, because isn't that what's most important?

Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings: Early 2009 Version

FanHouse's crack squad of savvy fantasy football personnel put our five heads together and amassed consensus rankings for non-keeper, standard scoring leagues. We'll update as the season gets closer, but this is our "incredibly early yet still fun" version.

While we gave the nod to Antonio Gates, the truth is there is a clear-cut top four of elite fantasy tight ends who are damn near interchangeable. You could draft any of the four first and you'd get no argument from us. Each will be a very valuable part of a full-throttle offensive attack and will not hurt your fantasy team in this relatively shallow position.

If you don't get one of the elite guys, don't fret. There's a quality selection of tight ends worthy of starting in most leagues. This isn't just the Gates and Gonzalez show anymore. Thus, you shouldn't consider anyone here until Round 4 at the absolute earliest.

Randy Moss Thinks LeBron James 'Could Be a Star' in NFL

Randy Moss is the best wide receiver in the NFL. For different reasons, Al Davis, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have a lot to do with that. But before his professional football career, Moss was a legit basketball player, too.

He was twice named Mr. Basketball in West Virginia, and even contemplated the two-sport route at one point. So when he says LeBron James could play in the NFL, I believe him. And not just suit up George Plimpton style, either. Moss thinks LeBron, an All-Ohio wideout in high school, would dominate.

Transition to Football Gaining Popularity

The few weeks after the NCAA Basketball season concludes are traditionally chock full of player movement announcements -- new recruits, transfers, entry entrants into the NBA draft, etc. This year has been no exception, but there is a trend gaining more steam. Having a collegiate basketball player become a football player isn't a new thing. Antonio Gates is an All-Pro tight end who didn't play a snap of college football, for example.

Still, the movement from football to basketball seems to be increasing in recent weeks. It makes sense, considering the speed, quickness and agility needed in both. For post players in basketball, they've become accustomed to a physical game anyway, and have the necessary strength-athleticism combo for a position like tight end. Here are four currently considering the shift:

Kellen Winslow's Insane Contract Should Mean More Money for Antonio Gates

Kellen Winslow signed a six-year extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently. When we first discussed the signing, the contract numbers hadn't been released. Now they have. And they're sort of insane.

Winslow is getting $36.1 million(!) over the six years, with an astounding $20.1 million of that guaranteed, and apparently, up to $42.1 million available through incentives. That's a whole lot of cash, folks, and it will make him -- at least temporarily -- the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.

Fantasy Spin: Jay Cutler to the Bears

The Broncos traded Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears today, ending what was a loooooong and painful saga between he and head coach Josh McDaniels.

In exchange, the Broncos received a 2009 first-round pick, a 2010 first-round pick, a 2009 third-round pick and a player to be named later Kyle Orton. As always, there are fantasy implications:

Sproles' Role to Remain Unchanged

The Chargers franchised Darren Sproles on Wednesday, making him the smallest NFL player who didn't make his living kicking a football to ever receive such a distinction.* For now, he's set to make $6.6 million next season, although San Diego hopes to sign Sproles to a long-term deal.

Those negotiations, however, won't have any bearing on the organization's dealings with its other running back, LaDainian Tomlinson. Earlier this offseason, speculation had LdT playing elsewhere in '09, but it looks like he'll stay in San Diego -- he'll just need to take a pay cut.

A Week 2 Playoff Fantasy Football Look

If you play in a playoff fantasy football league and get to reset your lineup before this weekend, worry not, we got your back. We'll just do a quick run-through of each game.

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans

First of all, don't you dare play any defense other than the Ravens. Ed Reed might score the most points in this game. If you've been watching the Ravens' play of late, you definitely aren't laughing at that statement.

I don't see how the Titans generate much offense, outside the possibility of getting Chris Johnson in space. I'd avoid everyone other than Johnson, and I'm not even a huge fan of Johnson.

The Ravens won't be able to move the ball quite as well as they did against the Dolphins' average defense. Your best bet would be Le'Ron McClain, as the Ravens will likely try to control the clock. The Titans are more vulnerable via the pass than the run -- though they aren't really weak anywhere -- but I can't see Joe Flacco playing overly well against this defense.

You could do much worse than either kicker here, by the way. Both Rob Bironas and Matt Stover are sure to be busy, considering the defenses don't allow many touchdowns.
