Biggest NFL Busts by Team: Who's Your Team's Worst Draft Pick Ever?

Everyone makes mistakes. But when those mistakes are magnified by intense scrutiny of the NFL draft, well, they become much more embarrassing than, say, my typical Friday morning, mustard-stain-on-khakis incident.

Which is why the NFL FanHouse braintrust got together to determine who is the biggest bust for each NFL team. They're not listed in terms of stupidity -- they're all stupid relative to a team's total draft performance. Meaning, of course, some teams "bust" is much different than another organization's; we did it this way to avoid just linking you to DetroitLions.com.

Instead, we're putting it in current draft order, sans trades, and allowing this list to serve as a reminder of each's team's ability to properly execute a fail. The "bust factor" was based primarily on three things: statistical production (or lack thereof), position in the draft and other available options during that year's draft.

Final Super Bowl Week Impression: Cardinals Relaxed, Steelers Businesslike

TAMPA, Fla. -- The above video of Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle showing off his dance moves and entertaining about a dozen of his teammates is just one of the many examples I've seen this week of the way the Cardinals seem to be the more relaxed team in the Super Bowl, while the Steelers have taken a more businesslike approach.

Antrel Rolle: Cardinals Aren't Great, but 'We're Beyond Average'

TAMPA, Fla. – As great as they've looked in the month of January, it would be awfully difficult to call the Arizona Cardinals a great team. They did, after all, finish the regular season 9-7 and lose games in December by scores of 47-7 and 35-14.

So it's not a big surprise that Cardinals defensive back Antrel Rolle would decline to call his team great, as he did in talking to reporters today. But it is interesting that he chose to use the words "beyond average" when describing his team.

Inside NFL Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. -- The best Super Bowl pregame show on TV comes on at the ungodly hour of 6:30 AM ET on Super Bowl Sunday, but it's worth getting up early (or setting the DVR) to see ESPN's NFL Matchup, the show that goes beyond highlights and analyzes the game with the same tape that coaches use. Today I watched the taping of the Matchup show that will air Sunday, and it was an Xs and Os education.

Eagles Storm Back on the Cardinals

There was little reason to think -- at least as soon as 15 real time minutes ago -- that the Philadelphia Eagles had any chance of beating the Arizona Cardinals and advancing to the Super Bowl. Adrian Wilson was sacking Donovan McNabb frequently, Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie were smothering the Guls' receivers (whom are average at best anyway, DeSean Jackson's youth aside).

Then, all of a sudden, McNabb hit Kevin Curtis on a laser-rocket-arm 50 yard completion on third and 19 that set up the Eagles up in the Arizona red zone, a rare occurance today indeed. Four plays later, D-Nasty found Brent Celek in the back of the end zone and the Eagles were suddenly within nine points.

Cardinals Strike Back, Take Lead Over Falcons Into Fourth Quarter

The Arizona Cardinals have dominated the third quarter of today's wild card playoff game, turning a 17-14 halftime deficit into a 28-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The second half couldn't have started much better for the Cardinals: On the second play of the third quarter, a botched Falcons handoff was fumbled and plucked out of the air by Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle, who raced 27 yards for a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 21-17 lead.

Later in the third, Cardinals running back Tim Hightower scored on a four-yard touchdown run to give the Cardinals a 28-17 lead, and then Arizona started to pour it on: On the Falcons' first play after the ensuing kickoff, Cardinals cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie showed off his incredible vertical jump as he leaped into the air and picked off a Matt Ryan pass.

The Cardinals had to punt on their next possession, and the Falcons have the ball heading into the fourth, but Atlanta now has an uphill climb to keep its season alive.

Cardinals 34, Rams 13: Cards Own West, Hightower Takes Edge's Job

How did you enjoy the Edgerrin James era? That's past tense for a reason, because in one week the torch was emphatically passed. We figured it might happen this week, but not like this. Not only did rookie Tim Hightower steal Edge's job, he was handed 22 carries to Edge's zero. That's right, not even in trash time of a blowout victory did Edge see the field. J.J. Arrington even had 11 touches.

The other main story-line was the Cardinals seizing a major lockdown of the NFC West. Had the Rams won this game, they'd have only trailed the Cards by a game ... sporting the head-to-head win and facing the Jets and Niners the next two games. This really would have been a divisional battle had the Rams held serve at home. They even stormed out of the gate with a 7-0 lead after one quarter, courtesy of an 80 yard bomb from Marc Bulger to Derek Stanley -- much to the chagrin of Torry Holt and Donnie Avery fantasy football owners.

FanHouse NFL Season Preview: Arizona Cardinals - Is This the Year Leinart Gets It?

Training camps are underway, the NFL season is a month off, and to get you ready for 2008, FanHouse previews all 32 teams, "heat index" style. We'll rate each club in 10 categories on a scale of 1 to 10, high score wins.

Quarterback: Matt Leinart enters his third year and he finally seems to understand that football is actually more important than bonging beers with Nick Lachey. If he struggles early, though, head coach Ken Whisenhunt won't hesitate to go with 37-year-old Kurt Warner. Heat Index: 5

Running backs: Edgerrin James' best days are (way) behind him, and Marcel Shipp, J.J. Arrington and rookie Tim Hightower are all "just guys." Which is to say: defenses will continue to play the pass until the running game proves otherwise. Heat Index: 3

Receivers: Larry Fitzgerald is extremely happy; Anquan Boldin, not so much. Still, they are two of the best wideouts in the league. No one will miss Bryant Johnson, and rookie Early Doucet will get every chance to win the slot receiver job. Assuming Leinart doesn't regress in '08, both Fitzgerald and Boldin should have 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Heat Index: 8

Antrel Rolle Takes One for the Team, Moves From Cornerback to Safety

Three years ago, some people who make it their business to know such things, considered Antrel Rolle the best cornerback in the 2005 draft. The Cardinals would end up taking him with the eight-overall pick, the second cornerback off the board after Pacman Jones.

For different reasons, Rolle and Jones have struggled at times in the NFL careers. Jones' issues are well documents; Rolle missed most of his rookie season with an injury, and after starting every game in 2006, he lost the job halfway through last season. As the nickel back in 2008, he returned three interceptions for scores, and his ability to tackle in the open field along with his good instincts makes him an ideal candidate to move to safety.
"I think it was a good move," Rolle said. "I wanted to move back there. I felt like I could help the team more back there, roam around, pretty much freelance and be a deep safety."

"The main thing I have to work on is reading the quarterback from that depth," Rolle said, "just slowing down a little bit. I'm used to being at corner, so my instincts are a whole lot faster. You have more time, and you can't get too antsy."

Cards' Adrian Wilson Placed on IR

FanHouser Dan Benton touched on it in his Browns-Cards preview, but Arizona will host a hot Browns team without the NFC's best safety, Adrian Wilson, in addition to starting cornerback Eric Green.

Both players have been placed on injured reserve, meaning they're restricted to sideline duty for the rest of the year. Not good news for a defense that was just average to begin with.

It's hard to quantify exactly what losing two starters in the secondary means, but according to Football Outsiders' stats, it looks like Wilson not only dominated against the run, but was no slouch in coverage either. The Cards ranked third in the NFL against opposing tight ends, which is sure to drop with Wilson out of action.

Green, who played opposite Antrel Rolle, seemingly had less success. Arizona ranks 28th against No. 1 receivers, and 20th against No. 2 receivers. This has to make Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards and Joe Jurevicius very happy. And hell, Kellen Winslow has to be excited about the opportunity to go up against not-Adrian Wilson.

Obviously, this is a big game for the Browns, who are just one game back of the division-leading Steelers. But the Cards, at 5-6, are just two games behind the Seahawks in the NFC West.
