Georges St. Pierre: Thiago Alves Would Whip B.J. Penn

The rivalry between Georges St Pierre and BJ Penn is over in the sense that they're not going to step into the Octagon together again, but it's far from over in the sense that they're not going to stop talking about each other any time soon.

Penn has repeatedly called St. Pierre a cheater, and St. Pierre, in a call to promote UFC 100, took a swipe at Penn in discussing his upcoming opponent, Thiago Alves.

Thiago Alves on Facing Georges St. Pierre at UFC 100: 'I Was Born For This'

Thiago Alves and Georges St. Pierre joined the media Thursday for a conference call regarding their UFC 100 welterweight title match.

Suffice it to say, this matchup lacks the venom of St. Pierre's last championship defense against BJ Penn, as both combatants were quick to praise each other.

Alves seemed supremely confident in his ability to topple GSP and emerge with the gold. The huge welterweight, who is in the midst of a seven-fight win streak including victories over Josh Koscheck, Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan, sounded like he believes a title is his destiny. What follows below is a select list of his quotes.

MMA Top 10 Lightweights: Eddie Alvarez, Diego Sanchez Impress

It was a big weekend for the lightweights in MMA, with Eddie Alvarez winning the Bellator lightweight tournament on Friday night (above) and Diego Sanchez beating Clay Guida by split decision in a fight of the year candidate Saturday at the Ultimate Fighter Finale.

So what's next for Alvarez and Sanchez? Bellator will have to work hard to attract some top-notch lightweights to challenge Alvarez in their second season (I'm hoping they sign Joachim Hansen), while Sanchez thinks he's earned a shot at the UFC lightweight belt (but I think he should fight Gray Maynard first). My list of the Top 10 lightweights in MMA is below.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Lyoto Machida, Mike Brown Rise

In a span of just 15 days, mixed martial arts fans were treated to the sight of two different fights involving one Top 10 pound-for-pound fighter taking on another: Lyoto Machida beat Rashad Evans at UFC 98 on May 23, and Mike Brown beat Urijah Faber at WEC 41 on June 7. That means it's time to revise our MMA rankings.

My latest list of the Top 10 Pound-for-Pound Fighters in MMA is below.

B.J. Penn Points Out That He Went the Distance With Lyoto Machida

We're a week into the Lyoto Machida era in the UFC, and I think the funniest response to Machida winning the light heavyweight championship from Rashad Evans came from UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn, who yells in the above video, just moments after Machida beat Evans, "He couldn't do that s**t to me."

MMA Top 10 Lightweights: Frank Edgar Up, Sean Sherk Down, JZ Calvan Out

After a weekend in mixed martial arts that saw big lightweight fights in both the UFC and Dream, it's time to revise our list of the Top 10 lightweights in MMA. Frank Edgar is new on our list after his impressive UFC 98 win over Sean Sherk, while Gesias "JZ Calvan" Cavalcante has dropped off the list after a disappointing loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri at Dream 9. The full Top 10 is below.

Edgar, Sonnen and McFedries Among Early Winners at UFC 98

Rising lightweight star Frankie Edgar scored a major upset over former UFC champion Sean Sherk, while Chael Sonnen and Drew McFedries were among other early winners at UFC 98.

In a matchup featuring two lightweight fighters primarily known for their wrestling abilities, Frankie Edgar earned the biggest win of his young career by defeating former champion Sean Sherk in a dominant performance, taking all three rounds on every judge's scorecard.

Sherk, coming off a win over Tyson Griffin in which he out-struck him, opted to stick with his standup, largely staying away from takedowns until late in the third round. That strategy turned out to be a big mistake. Edgar got the best of most of the exchanges, bloodying Sherk's face in the process.

B.J. Penn Still Bitter Over UFC 94, Never Wants to Fight in Las Vegas Again

Four months after losing to Georges St Pierre at UFC 94, UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn is still angry that the Nevada State Athletic Commission didn't take action against St. Pierre for having grease rubbed on his body during the fight. In fact, Penn says he's so angry that he never wants to fight in Las Vegas again.

Dana White Thinks Kenny Florian Should Run for President

Above, Kenny Florian appears on Good Day Philadelphia to promote his upcoming fight with BJ Penn at UFC 101. Anyone watching that video or any of Florian's other media appearances can see that he's just the kind of public face that the UFC likes to promote, but UFC President Dana White says he sees Florian doing more than just fighting.
