Peavy Is Pain-Free in Bullpen Session

Jake PeavyWhen it was announced on Friday that the Chicago White Sox had acquired Jake Peavy from the San Diego Padres for four pitchers, it caught everybody by surprise. Even Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, was caught off-guard, saying that on a scale of one to 10 the shock factor was about a 9.5.

Why would a team that's in contention to win a division trade for a pitcher they're not likely to have until September, if at all, this season?

It's a risky proposition, and one that White Sox general manager Kenny Williams is willing to take. If Sunday morning was any indication, it's one that may pay off sooner than expected.

Maybe Peavy Just Stays Put

Jake Peavy San Diego PadresWhat now for Jake Peavy?

Maybe nothing.

Despite a personal appeal from White Sox general manager Kenny Williams, Peavy would not waive his no-trade clause for an agreed-upon deal between the Padres and White Sox that became public Thursday.

"Jake is taking a stance where he is a member of the Padres," agent Barry Axelrod told FanHouse.

"But for the frustration of not competing as a team, it's all positives [in San Diego]. It's going to take a very enticing situation for him to move. Frankly, the Chicago White Sox are not a very enticing situation.

"As of today, San Diego is the right place for him."

Report: Peavy Deal 'Unlikely'

Have you heard? The White Sox and Padres have agreed to a deal that would send Jake Peavy to Chicago for what is being reported as four players, two of which are believed to be Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda. The teams have agreed to the deal and now the only thing we need to sit around and wait for is Peavy's approval.

There was some doubt that Peavy will accept the deal because of possible apprehension about either playing for Ozzie Guillen, playing in the American League, or pitching in US Cellular Field. The San Diego Union Tribune's Tom Krasovic originally reported the deal, and now according to Krasovic, it's "unlikely' this trade is going to go through.

Rick Sutcliffe Pitches The Cubs to Jake Peavy

Remember a few weeks ago when a Jake Peavy trade was imminent? The Padres were supposedly very close to sending Peavy to either the Atlanta Braves or Chicago Cubs, and it wasn't a matter of if the deal would be made as much as it was when. Well, Jake Peavy is still in San Diego, the Braves have said they're out of the discussion, and it would look like the Cubs are the only team still willing to talk.

That may explain why former Cubs and Padres pitcher Rick Sutcliffe has been telling Jake how wonderful playing for the Cubs is.
