B-Ball, B-Fast is a week-daily take on last night's NBA action from a fantasy basketball perspective. Bookmark it and visit often. Cup of CoffeeThe Big Baby got to take a test spin in a starting role Wednesday night, as
Kendrick Perkins' absence saw
Glen Davis at the five spot for opening tip against the Kings. Perkins was out because he dropped a bed on his toe. And no, I can't make that up. The scariest thing though? He, meaning the Santa dressed rook to your right, actually outperformed
Kevin Garnett. I wouldn't go bragging in the clubhouse about it, but I'd definitely be telling my kids at home. More importantly though, 16 points and nine boards for the rook mean that he's got some fantasy value lurking if Perkins stays injured.
Hot CakesT.J. Ford is now out at least a week after leaving the floor on a stretcher Monday, meaning
Jose Calderon will have great value, particularly in the helper category, for at least the next two weeks. He only threw up 12 points and seven dimes last night, but the Raptors blew the Mavericks out, so don't look too deeply into it. Enjoy his production.
In exciting eligibility news,
Paul Millsap started at center for the Jazz last night with
Mehmet Okur registering a DNP because of back spasms. Millsap equals manbeast (or "meast" if you prefer) should he get a starting role in Utah -- boards and blocks galore.
Tracy McGrady made his return to the floor after a half game absence in pretty solid style, registering a 29/3/6/0/2 line.
Bonzi Wells fell back to reality, scoring eight points with three boards in 11 minutes. T-Mac is injury prone though, so don't drop Wells just yet; he's one back tweak away from being a nice option.
Not as much is true for the fantasy stagnant Dallas Mavericks --
Josh Howard got poked in the eye and didn't return to last night's game (more when we hear it) and
Devin Harris was out with the flu. There's just not a lot of excitement that comes off the bench for this team. If
Dirk Nowitzki goes down, maybe Brandon Bass sees a spike in value ... other than that, it's Jason Terry coming off the bench and
Jerry Stackhouse being a potential option if he gets between 10 and 15 shots a night.
One guy you know is gonna get 15 a night is
Kevin Durant. And while Durant has been good and exciting this year, from a fantasy perspective, he's been a field goal killer. Which is why it's so nice so see him really stepping his overall game recently - back to back 30 point games including a five block effort against the Bucks earlier this week and following it up with a 30/5/4/0/2 line last night against the Knicks. Most importantly, he's 20 for his 40 from the floor. Which, math majors, is 50 percent. Sure it was the Knicks and Bucks but if Durant can get his percentages going, look out. Good buy if his owner is sick of seeing those numbers hurt his team.
Don't get pump faked on the
Travis Outlaw Watch, as it turns out that
Martell Webster also has the flu. Still, Outlaw poured in 22 off the bench with Martell ailing and the cause continues to grow. Just give in already, Portland.
