Notre Dame Scrubs '07 Season From Media Guide, Weis Bio

The entire college football world remembers Notre Dame's 3-9 effort in the 2007 season, but in South Bend, Ind., it never happened. Fort Wayne's Journal Gazette discovered the omission when perusing the Irish's spring prospectus and 2008 media guide.

The Notre Dame athletic department scrubbed all losing seasons both at Notre Dame and elsewhere from Weis' bio in both publications. This is the stuff made for conspiracy and intrigue in the slow death march of the offseason, but fear not, there's an explanation. Sort of.

Here's Some Good News For Notre Dame Fans

This is not a fun time to be a Notre Dame fan. The team is off to the first 0-4 start in school history, and it doesn't look like things are going to get any better anytime soon when looking at their next four games. Right now I don't think anybody would be surprised if the Irish start their season 0-8.

I mean, it can't get much more embarrassing than it already is right now, right? Please? Just tell me it can't. You don't have to actually believe it yourself, just convince me.

Anything?

No?

Fine. Well then, since 2007 is basically over for the Irish, I can't help but look to the future of the program. Thankfully, according to recruiting guru Tom Lemming, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
"It is OK to look ahead," CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. "In 2009, with the two classes they have on the field, with the one they're putting together, with the great start they have on juniors, they're going to be the most talented team in America."
2009? Hey! That's only two years away!

The question is whether or not Charlie Weis will still be around to see it. Weis is feeling heat for the first time since he took over the football team, but I don't expect the Irish to fire him. At least, not this season. If the same horrible play Irish fans have been forced to watch this season continues into 2008, Charlie may go the way of Tyrone Willingham and Bob Davie.

Until then, Irish fans will just have to keep watching this team play, and do their best not to cry.
