NFL Announces Hall of Fame Finalists

On Tuesday, the NFL announced the finalists for the 2009 Hall of Fame class, a list that contains the NFL's all-time sack leader, a current owner, a former commissioner, and six first-time finalists.

The voters will select a minimum of four and a maximum of seven new members on January 31. The complete list of finalists after the jump.

'72 Dolphins: Too Early to Talk About Pats

Obviously that's not what all of them said, but it's what a few felt when talking to the Boston Herald recently. We've already pointed out that there are some obstacles for the Pats to go undefeated, and the '72 Dolphins seem to believe it's not just unlikely, but also too early to begin such conversations:
"Without question you're the earliest to call," [Bob] Kuechenberg told the Herald. "You jumped it by six games. Talk to me in two months when we're in double digits, and then we'll make a little wager. If we make one now, I'm just taking your money."
...
"I've heard the discussions going on and I think it's pretty ludicrous," [Jim] Kiick said. "This is definitely the earliest this kind of talk has started up. I know New England is playing very well, but it's a long season. I can't imagine, as good as they're playing, that they can stay at this level."
Kiick went on to say that New England still has the Cowboys and Colts on the schedule, amongst others. As great as it would be to go undefeated, I have to question if that's something the Pats would even want to do. Meaning, if it means they have to play harder down the stretch rather than rest guys, would that be in their best interest? I'm not sure, but to use a typical athlete cliche, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, I agree with the codgers -- there's a long way to go.
