Falcons Notebook: Saturday, June 23rd

"Falcons Notebook" is a new feature here on NFL FanHouse. The purpose of it is to keep all of you hardcore fans up-to-date with Atlanta's goings on without littering FanHouse will three or four posts per day. With that said, let's check out what's happening in Falcons land.

Falcons sell naming rights to training camp: The Atlanta Falcons have officially sold the naming rights of their training camp to Russell Athletic. The specific name for their training camp has yet to be released, but as part of the four-year deal, Atlanta will also attach the companies name to their preseason camp. The deal is reportedly one of the Falcons top 10 partnerships in terms of income.

Brian Finneran out for the season: For the second year in a row, Brian Finneran will sit out due to injury. The wide receiver recently had surgery to repair his left ACL, the same injury he suffered last year.

Falcons' Finneran Will Have Surgery; Out Indefinitely

Falcons' wide receiver Brian Finneran will once again undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL. It will be the second such surgery he's undergone within a year to fix the identical injury -- an injury that cost him to miss all 16 games last season.

Coach Bobby Petrino didn't offer much in the way of detail. He would not tell reporters how significant the injury [other than the obvious] was or give a timetable for Finneran's return.

Unfortunately, there is a good chance that this injury could not only end Finneran's season, but his career as well. Obviously, the Falcons and their fans hope that's not the case, but it does not look good for the eight-year NFL veteran.

Falcons' Finneran Tears ACL; Season, Career in Jeopardy

I was honestly hoping not to write about anymore injuries until the regular season, but that wish went out the window yesterday when it was reported that Falcons wide receiver Brian Finneran tore his ACL again.

Finneran, who missed the entire 2006 season with the same injury, hurt himself on Saturday during some like rehab running. The seven-year veteran now faces another year on the sidelines and potentially the end of his NFL career.

Over the course of his seven-year career, Finneran has caught 187 passes for 2,647 yards and 15 touchdowns. More importantly, he had become one of Michael Vick's favorite and most trusted offensive weapons. He had superb third-down ability and the Falcons passing game suffered significantly without him last season.

Atlanta did sign Joe Horn this offseason, so the loss of Finneran won't hurt quite as much as it did last year.
