If
Tom Brady were, say,
Rex Grossman, and he just put the
finishing touches on a preseason performance that included completing 17 of 21 passes for 167 yards, two touchdowns and no picks, I'd suggest
he should have a baby every week.
But Brady's no Grossman; he plays like this all the time, proving, I guess, that nothing fazes the guy. Focus, sheer force of will and all that.
Actually, Brady missed two days of practice to fly to California to be with his ex-girlfriend
Bridget Moynahan as she gave birth to their son. But as of now, that's all we know. And when I write "we", I mean
everybody outside of his immediately family.
According to the AP, Brady avoided reporters after the game, and he hasn't even told his teammates the name of the baby.
"He's got to fly across the world and take care of his issues," receiver Kelley Washington said. "It just shows how professional he is."
Yep, geographical exaggerations aside, Washington nails it. Brady looked to be in mid-season form, which isn't really that surprising since he's, you know, Tom Brady.
In other Pats-related news,
Adalius Thomas wreaked havoc for two quarters,
Wes Welker proved to be just as annoying in a Patriots uniform as he was in a Dolphins get up, and
Laurence Maroney got plenty of work -- he carried the ball on New England's first seven plays -- and looked good doing so. Oh, and the Pats steamrolled the Panthers 24-7. Start up the Super Bowl talk ... oh, wait.
