Stephan Bonnar: UFC Has Become More Understanding About Injuries

The UFC currently has four of its five champions sitting out with either injuries or illness, leading some to wonder whether the promotion has been cursed this fall. But Stephan Bonnar said this week on ESPN's MMA Live that it's not a curse, but a change of attitude within the UFC: According to Bonnar, the UFC brass has started showing more sympathy when its top fighters say they can't go.

Brock Lesnar-Shane Carwin Off UFC 108

The plan to reschedule the UFC heavyweight championship bout between champ Brock Lesnar and challenger Shane Carwin at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 has been nixed.

Carwin (11-0) was informed Wednesday evening by the UFC through his manager that the illness that caused Lesnar (4-1) to withdraw last week from their UFC 106 main event on Nov. 21 has persisted, rendering the champ unfit to train for a Jan. 2 fight as well.

The MMA Hour: Dan Hardy on UFC 105; Scott Coker Talks Strikeforce News

Dan Hardy
On this week's edition of The MMA Hour, we were joined by Dan Hardy, who faces Mike Swick in a No. 1 contender's match at UFC 105 on Nov. 14. Hardy talked about getting a shot to fight for the title early in his UFC career, MMA's popularity in the United Kingdom, and his recent criticism of Bernard Hopkins after the boxing legend blasted MMA.

Later in the show, we spoke to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker about the upcoming Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers bout on Nov. 7, the Dan Henderson sweepstakes, and when we should expect to see Gina Carano return to action. Ray Hui and I also looked back at UFC 104 and Brock Lesnar having to pull out of his title fight at UFC 106.

Defending The Champ: Sickness, Not Scandal, Behind Lesnar Postponement

Brock Lesnar says he has the flu, and has been too ill to train effectively and prepare for the biggest challenger of his title reign: 6-foot-2, 260-pound Shane Carwin. Because of an extended illness, he's pulled out of their scheduled UFC 106 fight, leading to a postponement that will probably place the bout in the early part of the new year.

That seems perfectly rational and logical. But apparently it's not enough for some, all because of a video of Lesnar appearing at an Oct. 18 Minnesota Vikings game. The cynics believe that video is proof positive that Lesnar is healthy and that something else is afoot in regards to the date change.

What is with the MMA world lately that makes them want to turn every story into a soap opera?

Brock Lesnar Out of UFC 106 Main Event

In a major blow to the Nov. 21 UFC 106 card in Vegas, the heavyweight championship bout between titleholder Brock Lesnar and challenger Shane Carwin has been scrapped.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Lesnar withdrew Monday from the main event due to an illness that has sidelined him from training for over three-and-a-half weeks.

"He said he's never been this sick in his life," UFC president Dana White told Yahoo! Sports. "He said it's been going on for a long time and he just hasn't been able to shake it."

Shane Carwin Talks Brock Lesnar, Fatherhood, Life Outside UFC, More

Shane Carwin was originally scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 this past weekend, but the UFC decided to change its plans and have the big man face Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 instead. It's an opportunity of a lifetime for the former NCAA Division II wrestling champion and two-time All-American football player at Western State College who has yet to lose in his first 11 professional bouts.

FanHouse recently spoke to Carwin about his simmering feud with Lesnar, training for the biggest fight of his life while his wife is pregnant, and his full-time job as an engineer. The full video interview is below.

Dana White: Fedor Emelianenko Should Be Fighting Brock Lesnar Next

Updates: Fedor Emelianenko
Get the Latest: Strikeforce

LOS ANGELES -- At Thursday's UFC 104 press conference, Dana White once again voiced his displeasure over the fact that Fedor Emelianenko is not fighting Brock Lesnar in the Octagon next, but rather Brett Rogers in a Strikeforce cage. White also said he wouldn't be surprised if Rogers knocked out Emelianenko.

"You know what scares me about the Brett Rogers fight? Brett Rogers might knock him out," White said.

Check out the video of White talking the media about Emelianenko vs. Rogers below. (Warning: video contains some explicit language.)

Forrest Griffin Replaces Mark Coleman, Will Fight Tito Ortiz at UFC 106

Forrest GriffinForrest Griffin has stepped into the UFC 106 slot vacated by Mark Coleman due to injury, and will take on the returning Tito Ortiz, according to a report from Yahoo Sports, citing confirmation from UFC President Dana White.

The fight is a rematch of an April 2006 contest, which Ortiz (15-6) won in a tight split-decision.

Coleman was forced to withdraw from the bout just days ago, leaving the UFC scrambling for a replacement. Griffin (16-6), like Ortiz a former light-heavyweight champion, should be considered by most a worthy choice.

Meet Arguably NHL's Biggest MMA Fan: Boston Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas

Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas is such a big MMA fan that he named his dog after Forrest Griffin. (Surprisingly, though, the dog's name is Griffin, not Forrest.) And after to talking to him about his love for all things MMA recently, it's probably safe to assume that few professional athletes enjoy watching the sport more than the veteran netminder.

The winner of the 2009 Vezina Trophy for the NHL's best goaltender discussed how he was drawn to MMA, why he thinks the fighters should get paid more and whether he would ever step into a cage or ring himself. The full interview is below.

The MMA Hour: Shane Carwin Talks UFC 106; Ben Henderson on WEC 43

On this week's edition of The MMA Hour, we were first joined by WEC lightweight contender Ben Henderson. "Smooth" talked about his Oct. 10 interim lightweight title bout against Donald Cerrone, his recent eye surgery and his love of tooth picks.

We were later joined by UFC heavyweight star Shane Carwin, who faces Brock Lesnar for the title at UFC 106 in November. Carwin responded to Lesnar's recent trash talk and explained why there is no love lost between the big men. Check out the show below.
