Cushing, Maualuga to Stay in School

Ohio State fans hoping that the USC Trojan defense might be soft over the middle when the Buckeyes visit the Coliseum on September 13, 2008 will not like this news--standout linebackers Brian Cushing and Rey Maualuga will return for their senior seasons.

The two juniors, who have yet to win a National Title at USC say thay were influenced by senior Keith Rivers in making their decision to stick around for one more year.

Rivers explains to the Los Angeles Times, ""Most of the people I've talked to in the league say college is more fun. After practice, I'll go, 'Hey Rey, let's hang out.' In the league guys are married or getting cut left and right. . . . You can't really beat the camaraderie of being a young adult."

Of course some Trojans who have stayed in school are still fighting the evils of family life--like former Leinart Lady Brynn Cameron who is balancing motherhood and USC basketball.

TMZ: Thirty Matt (Leinart) Zone

Few sports heroes have been able to cross the velvet rope of Hollywood's Thirty Mile Zone--the namesake of our sister blog TMZ--but the celebrity gossip blog is breaking news about Arizona Cardinal quarterback Matt Leinart with surprising regularity, and some folks think its kind of fishy.

At issue is the dispute between Leinart and the mother of his child, Brynn Cameron. When the former USC woman's basketball captain got too verbose about Leinart's "parenting" to the Ventura County Star, it was TMZ who reported that Cameron was asking for a seemingly outrageous $30,000 a month in child support to take care of son Cole whilst living in her parents' house.

But the story doesn't end there.

Family Ties Bind Trojan's Camerons

When the folks at Heritage Hall talk about USC's "Trojan Family," they aren't kidding. The latest recruit to the Men of Troy has special family ties to the program and it's legacy.

Yesterday 6'6" Jordan Cameron announced that he will be leaving behind his basketball scholarship at Brigham Young University to play tight end for the USC Trojans.

The 230-pound Cameron has a special relationship to the program that's about one tenth his weight. He's the uncle of Cole Cameron-Leinart, son of his sister Brynn and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Matt Leinart.

If Cameron plans on getting any closer to a Heisman Trophy, it will have to belong to Joe McKnight, Mark Sanchez or Mitch Mustain, however, since he will redshirt this season.
