Padre fans are trembling.Okay, maybe not. In fact, Padre fans are probably doing nothing more than soaking up that beautiful California sun. But they have reason to worry a bit, as Jim Edmonds is due for an MRI on his right calf today after straining it coming out of the batters box on Thursday.
With Edmonds' advancing age and recent history of injuries (surgery on his right shoulder and left toe in the offseason), the off-season trade for Edmonds was risky to begin with. With this latest development, maybe some people are thinking that the low cost of cash and a minor leaguer might still be too steep. At least the Edmonds injury might clear the way for the debut of someone who has surely one of baseball's newest, greatest names: Callix Crabbe.
