When the Senators acquired Mike Comrie and Chris Campoli before the trade deadline, some of the talk surrounding the trade wasn't about the players themselves. Since the Senators were out of the playoff race at the time some of the discussion revolved around Comrie's significant other, Hillary Duff. Duff could almost always been seen at the Coliseum when Comrie was an Islander and is now a fixture at Scotiabank Place.
In a surprising move, the Ottawa Senators have acquired defenseman Chris Campoli and center Mike Comrie from the New York Islanders in exchange for Dean McAmmond and a first-round pick (originally belonging to San Jose) in the 2009 NHL draft, according to the Islanders website.
This move makes little sense for Ottawa, unless general manager Bryan Murray has another deal on the horizon. If he doesn't, well, then he's either under the delusion that his team, currently 13 points out of the final playoff spot, is primed to make a serious run in the final weeks of the season, or he's completely lost his mind and is trying to George Costanza his way out of a job.
The couple reportedly met when Mike checked out one of Carrie's concerts in March 2008, but things appeared to heat up over the holidays when fans caught a glimpse of the 25-year-old Grammy winner on the Jumbotron "Hug Cam" at the Air Canada Centre. She was reportedly in a private VIP box, which also included the handsome hockey player's parents and his brother, Bud.
Carrie also reportedly spent New Year's Eve with Mike's sister, getting pedicures and being pampered at swanky spa and hair salon, Rinaldo.
"She was here with Mike Fisher's sister and the staff took good care of them," Pat Rinaldo told the paper. "She was very quiet, very sweet and pleasant. She wasn't demanding at all, everyone loved her and a lot of people recognized her."
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but Carrie Underwood's upcoming National Anthem performance at Game Three of the Series at Coors Field on Saturday night does create a minor bit of irony. We'll let the quote explain:
Dick and Charlie Monfort, the Rockies general partnership, are active in the beef industry. Their grandfather, Warren Monfort, and father, Ken Monfort, created Greeley-based Monfort Inc., which was one of the largest meat-packing companies in the world. It is now a part of Swift Co.
Underwood, meanwhile, was voted "world's sexiest vegetarian," by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in 2007, the second time she has been selected for the award. She also is a supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, which has taken stands against the beef industry, rodeo and hunting. (...)
Fox is televising the World Series and is believed to have been involved in the decision-making process. Underwood is a former winner of the Fox show American Idol.
"Carrie Underwood was invited to sing the national anthem based solely on her vocal accomplishments, including being a two-time Grammy Award Winner and the best-selling female country artists from 2005-2007," Major League Baseball said in a statement.
Yeah, quite ironic. But unless Underwood backs out of singing the anthem, or she dumps a bucket of red dye on Ryan Spilborghs, this more than likely isn't going to turn into anything. Besides, I think more people will be speculating about which Rockie dude Underwood might cuddle up to while getting over breaking up with Tony Romo.
If they did, it wouldn't have been the first time some celebrities tried to get hitched in secrecy. And we did tell you a few months ago that the two were talking marriage. Anyways, the following ambiguous selection is the root of the rumor. From The Dallas Morning News via sports gossip god, Ben Maller:
Tony Romo, whose romance with singer Carrie Underwood is frequent tabloid fodder, gave gossip reporters something to chase during his speech after accepting the team's offensive player of the year award. He thanked several people, ending the list by saying with a smirk, "and my wife."
Maybe it's just some sort of locker room joke, who knows. Or maybe he went the Tony Gonzalez route and that's why there wasn't much attention paid to it. Anyways, I'd have a hard time believing the two got married without anyone leaking the news. Sorry, No Photos
That's a picture of Tony Romo celebrating his 27th birthday by enjoying the affections of the lovely Carrie Underwood. They're at a Dallas club called "Ghostbar," which according to the Girls Gone Sports, "brings the suck." Myself, if Carrie Underwood was draped all over me, I wouldn't have a problem hanging out just about anywhere.
So, this looks to be obvious confirmation that they are, in fact, together, even if they aren't getting married. They have denied, time and time again, however, that they're dating. These pictures paint another story. I don't get to behave like that with a woman I'm not dating, unless I pay extra for it.
