Dan Hawkins Wouldn't Recruit Son if Given Another Chance

Cody Hawkins, Dan HawkinsColorado coach Dan Hawkins has been adamant the past few seasons that having his son, Cody Hawkins, play quarterback for the Buffaloes was no different than other recruit.

Hawkins did a complete turnaround during Monday's weekly press conference, saying if he had to do it all over again he would not have recruited his own son.

"Not for him, no. Nope. Not at all," Hawkins said. "It's not fair to him. Here is a guy who is trying to do his best to win games and to help his team and does everything right, he's a good student and he's getting killed on Facebook and getting killed on his cell phone.

Daily Domer: Rubber-Necking the Irish

Charlie WeisFanHouse writer John Walters is living in South Bend, Ind., during one of the most pivotal seasons in Notre Dame history. Check back daily for his dispatches on the Irish.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The numbers are fluid, but if you search stories on the web for the past two weeks you will find that no head coach, with the exception of Florida's Urban Meyer, is written about more than Charlie Weis. And if you were to eliminate the stories that pertain to Meyer possibly leaving the Brigadoon that is Gainesville for the "Deadliest Catch" climes of South Bend, then Weis may be number one.

Nick Saban. Mack Brown. Brian Kelly. The Patterson/Petersen duo, Gary and Chris. None of them have had even half the stories being written about them that Weis does even though all five of them have guided their teams to undefeated seasons thus far. Weis' team, as you know, is but 6-4.

Stoops to Irish Flies in Face of Logic

Bob StoopsIf you believe rumors, then Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops would be interested in coaching Notre Dame should the Irish send Charlie Weis packing after five seasons.

The initial thought: Yeah right.

"That's ridiculous," Stoops said of the reports on Monday.

Domer: All That Glittered Wasn't Gold

Charlie WeisFanHouse writer John Walters is living in South Bend, Ind., during one of the most pivotal seasons in Notre Dame history. Check back daily for his dispatches on the Irish.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It was just moments after Notre Dame obliterated Nevada, 35-0, in the season-opener and before the band had yet to strike up the Alma Mater. I stood next to WNDU-TV's Jeff Jeffers, who has been covering this program for more than three decades. Each of us incredulous, we gaped at one another.

"Did that just happen?" I asked.

"Did it?" he replied.

Have you seen Nevada lately? The Wolf Pack are 7-3. They are fifth in the nation in scoring offense -- that's right, the same team the Irish shut out, Notre Dame's lone shutout of the Charlie Weis era -- is averaging 39 points per game. They're No. 1 in rushing offense and it isn't even close. Nevada is averaging 353 yards per game on the ground. The next most prolfic rushing attack, Georgia Tech's, averages 314 yards per game.

Time for Notre Dame to Sink USS Charlie

Charlie WeisI'm not sure who's more hopelessly out of place: Charlie Weis on the Notre Dame sideline or Jon Gruden in the "Monday Night Football'' broadcast booth. But two wrongs easily can be righted in one spectacular swoop. The Domers need to swallow hard again, reach down for that big wallet, send away Weis with his $18 million buyout and hire Gruden as their next coach.

Because Navy just sank the USS Charlie.

Rich Rodriguez Denies Jonas Mouton Punched Irish Player

Michigan linebacker Jonas Mouton punched Notre Dame center Eric Olsen in the second quarter of Michigan's victory on Saturday, and although the officials missed it, it's clear to see: Plain as day in the video above, Mouton delivers a right uppercut to Olsen's chin after the play is over.

Hawaii's Greg McMackin Apologizes for Gay Slur Aimed at Notre Dame

Hawaii head football coach Greg McMackinGreg McMackin, the head coach at Hawaii, should probably call in sick to next year's WAC media day teleconference. For the second year in a row, he has said something regrettable during that event.

This year McMackin (pictured right) told a story about a banquet the night before last year's Hawaii Bowl, which pitted his team against Notre Dame. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis told the crowd about his school's "clapping tradition," which frankly is even less exciting than you think: "WE ARE!" (clap, clap) "ND!" (clap, clap).

McMackin, it must be said, was not exactly impressed by this.

Charlie Weis Tweets About How Using Twitter Can Violate NCAA Rules

Like thousands of other people in the sports world, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis uses Twitter to keep fans updated on what he's doing. But in a series of tweets on Wednesday, Weis explained that there are certain things he's not allowed to do on Twitter -- like respond to tweets from high school football players -- because of NCAA recruiting rules.

Browns Could Trade Quinn, Edwards

Nearly a month ago, the National Football Post's Michael Lombardi hinted that Brady Quinn might not be accurate enough to make it as an NFL starter. He added, "As Cleveland makes changes to its roster, don't count out making a move at quarterback."

During the five weeks of McJaygate, Quinn was often mentioned as Jay Cutler's possible replacement in Denver. (The thinking: Josh McDaniels and Charlie Weis worked together in New England, and Weis would later coach Quinn at Notre Dame.)

Bus Cook Denies Keeping Jay Cutler Out of Cleveland

On Monday, in a post about the possibility of Brady Quinn still landing in Denver, I mentioned that, via the Denver Post, an NFL source said it won't happen because "[Jay] Cutler's agent Bus Cook made it clear his client would not play for new Cleveland coach Eric Mangini."

Well, Cook, who also represents Brett Favre (hence the Mangini reference), takes issue with the allegation, telling the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, "That's not true ... Jay doesn't even know Eric Mangini except for maybe when they met when he was coming out of Vanderbilt.''

Cook adds:
