Charlie Weis Tweets About How Using Twitter Can Violate NCAA Rules

Like thousands of other people in the sports world, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis uses Twitter to keep fans updated on what he's doing. But in a series of tweets on Wednesday, Weis explained that there are certain things he's not allowed to do on Twitter -- like respond to tweets from high school football players -- because of NCAA recruiting rules.

Browns Could Trade Quinn, Edwards

Nearly a month ago, the National Football Post's Michael Lombardi hinted that Brady Quinn might not be accurate enough to make it as an NFL starter. He added, "As Cleveland makes changes to its roster, don't count out making a move at quarterback."

During the five weeks of McJaygate, Quinn was often mentioned as Jay Cutler's possible replacement in Denver. (The thinking: Josh McDaniels and Charlie Weis worked together in New England, and Weis would later coach Quinn at Notre Dame.)

Bus Cook Denies Keeping Jay Cutler Out of Cleveland

On Monday, in a post about the possibility of Brady Quinn still landing in Denver, I mentioned that, via the Denver Post, an NFL source said it won't happen because "[Jay] Cutler's agent Bus Cook made it clear his client would not play for new Cleveland coach Eric Mangini."

Well, Cook, who also represents Brett Favre (hence the Mangini reference), takes issue with the allegation, telling the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, "That's not true ... Jay doesn't even know Eric Mangini except for maybe when they met when he was coming out of Vanderbilt.''

Cook adds:

Another Way to Get Quinn Out of Cleveland: Trade Him to Denver

A year ago, Derek Anderson was coming off a Pro Bowl season and proved that he was an NFL starting quarterback in the process, if not for the Browns, then certainly somewhere. Now, after enduring a benching and a season-ending knee injury in 2008, his future seems much less certain.

The same can also be said about Cleveland's other quarterback, Brady Quinn, who was drafted in 2007 as the face of the franchise only to start just three games in two seasons. Earlier this week, the National Football Post's Mike Lombardi didn't rule out the possibility of the Browns drafting another quarterback this April.

Bill Belichick, Charlie Weis on Stage With Jon Bon Jovi

Above, a video of something you probably weren't expecting to see: New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis on stage, singing with Jon Bon Jovi.

Signing Day: Manti Te'o to Notre Dame

The biggest football recruit in the history of the state of Hawaii -- Manti Te'o -- has chosen to play football for Charlie Weis and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish beat out USC and UCLA for Te'o's services after he dropped the favored BYU Cougars from his list after a visit several weeks ago. Te'o is a 6'2", 225-pound middle linebacker long considered one of the nation's top prospects.

If Vontaze Burfict wasn't the nation's top linebacker, Te'o was, and both spurned longtime favorites USC on signing day.

Those Jon Gruden Rumors Are Not Sitting Well With Notre Dame

Notre Dame came out and announced -- a while ago, really -- that Charlie Weis was not going to be replaced as the head coach of the Fighting Irish. Presumably, they thought everyone would accept their ignorance wishes and just let Weis ride out the rest of his mammoth contract.

It seemed like that would be case too, after ND punished Hawaii down in Honolulu, regardless of the false front that such a win presented. But then Jon Gruden got fired and the rumor mill got to churning quickly about the possibility of "Chucky Goes to College". The Irish were not particularly thrilled about said gossip.

Jon Gruden Replacing Charlie Weis at Notre Dame? Speculation Begins

We all knew it wouldn't take long after Jon Gruden was fired as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until speculation began that he would replace Charlie Weis as the next head coach at Notre Dame.

Mike Haywood Becomes Sixth Black Head Coach In Division I College Football

Miami of Ohio -- not to be confused with Miami Florida, which also has a black head coach in Randy Shannon -- has hired Notre Dame "offensive coordinator" Mike Haywood to run its program. He succeeds Shane Montgomery, who stepped down after a 2-10 season.

Color us a little confused if encouraged by this hire. Just today we wrote about Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis' continued decision to call plays for his offense instead of his, you know, offensive coordinator, who just so happened to be Haywood. It's very likely that speaks to Weis' own massive control demands, but it may also speak to Haywood's abilities. Regardless it's nice to see another black head coach among the ranks.

For a while, the prospects for minority head coaches in D-I-please-don't-call-it-the-Football-Bowl-Subdivision looked grim, as their numbers shrank when Washington canned Tyrone Willingham, Kansas State parted ways with Ron Prince, and Sylvester Croom stepped down at Mississippi State.

What has happened since has been a needed surge of black /minority coaching hires.

Turkey Legs to Go: Hawaii Bowl Travel Guide, Hawaii v. Notre Dame

Turkey Legs to Go is FanHouse's complete travel guide for all of the 2008-2009 college bowl games. Here, we cover the Hawaii Bowl (Honolulu, Hawaii), which pits Hawaii against BYU.

Overview / Matchup: One would be hard pressed to find a football team more deserving of a trip to beautiful Hawaii than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Or, maybe you disagree. You filthy cynic. Either way, we all win, because Charlie Weis will be rocking shorts and a Hawaiian shirt come late December.

Okay, yes, that's a losing scenario, but it's one we face with Notre Dame heading to the islands for a post season bowl, and one that will have them face off against the "native" Rainbow Warriors, who are fortunate enough to avoid travel expenses and get to give the Irish a chance to really regret firing Chuckles.

Hotels: There are a few budget hotels closer to Aloha Stadium, but the main tourist area is 20 or 25 minutes away. However, if you're seeking quality accommodation the drive will be worth it. Stay at the Halekulani and swim in their world famous Orchid-mosaic pool. If the Halekulani is out of your price-range, stay at its sister property, the much more affordable Waikiki Parc Hotel. Guests are offered plenty of shared privileges with the Halekulani (except for use of the pool). If economy is your concern, stay at the Pacific Marina Inn. The hotel has limited services and accommodation, but it's one of the only places in Honolulu where you can find a room for under 100 a night. It's also closer to the airport and the stadium than the other hotels.
