Sunday Could Be Miller Time for Steelers

There aren't a lot of underappreciated Pittsburgh Steelers. As a team that spent most of the season on prime time or in national 4:15 p.m. games, any Steeler who stood out was seen all around the country.

But if there is one Steeler who could be considered a sleeper, it's tight end Heath Miller. Miller is one of the keys to the Steelers offense, but because most of his work is done blocking defensive ends and linebackers for the Steelers running game, he doesn't put up the numbers to be noticed.

Anatomy of a Play: Cardinals Outside Linebacker Loop

To get you ready for Super Bowl XLIII, we're diagramming a couple of key plays in Anatomy of a Play.

While the Steelers have a reputation as a blitzing team, the Cardinals are actually the team that will most likely do anything and everything to create havoc on defense.

Pittsburgh believes that it can get pressure with a four-man rush. Arizona, on the other hand, will probably send five, six and even seven to put Ben Roethlisberger on the ground. The Cardinals will also likely blitz their inside linebackers in first- and second-down situations to try to create problems in the Steelers' run game.

Oakland's Trash is Arizona's Treasure; Cardinals Claim Quentin Moses

Only a day after being cut by the Oakland Raiders, defensive end Quentin Moses has found a new home. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals have claimed the 65th overall pick off waivers from Oakland.

Moses, who likely fell victim to the Raiders glut of pass rushers, was one of the most surprising cuts in the NFL yesterday. In fact, he was the highest draft pick released across the entire league.

Snippet from Moses' Football's Future profile:

Pound for pound, Moses is one of the elite athletes in the draft. He has fantastic agility, quickness, and speed on the football field. He has the athletic talent to be a true standout off the edge in the NFL. He is not just an athlete though. He has a great burst off the snap, and once he gets a step on the tackle, is in the backfield to bring down the ball carrier. Moses shows the ability to get after the passer, but has the awareness to see the run play and get to the back.
With the injury to Chike Okeafor, Moses stands a good chance to see some playing time in Arizona. If nothing else, he adds quality depth and a familiarity with the tweener (DE/LB) position and the 3-4 defense.

Houston Texans @ Arizona Cardinals: Week Two Preseason Injury Report

Taking into account that it's the preseason, many of the players sitting on the sidelines tonight would normally be on the field if it was a meaningful game. With that said, I'm sure most fans would like to know who they should expect to see this evening. For that reason, I've done by best to create an accurate injury report -- official reports are not posted until week one of the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals:

Out: Tackle Oliver Ross (tricep), defensive end Chike Okeafor (bicep), center/guard Nick Leckey (knee), fullback A.J. Schable (foot) and defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis (knee).

Questionable: Linebacker Monty Beisel (back).

Probable: Cornerback Eric Green (leg).

Injuries Hit Cardinals Hard; Chike Okeafor and Oliver Ross Likely Out for Season

I really hate to be the bringer of bad news, but that's exactly what I have for you this evening. Unfortunately, the Cardinals could lose two starters for the year before the regular season even begins.

Chike Okeafor, who was injured in training camp, got his MRI results back today and they revealed torn left bicep. Adding to the misery, a club official also announced that starting right tackle Oliver Ross suffered a torn left tricep last night in the Cardinals 27-23 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Both players will seek second opinions, but the outlook isn't promising. Should their respective injuries require surgery, they would each miss the entire 2007 season.

The news on Okeafor was not unexpected. He was on the injury report last night. But Ross wasn't, so his loss comes as a surprise. Rookie Levi Brown steps in and starts for him, but Okeafor's replacement isn't so clear cut.
The Cardinals just can't seem to catch a break.

Cardinals Significantly Alter Their Front Seven

The 3-4 defense that the Arizona Cardinals will switch to this season has caused a ton of changes to their front seven. In fact, almost every single player other than Gabe Watson and Antonio Smith will be moved.

Watson will continue to battle Alan Branch for the starting nose tackle spot, while Smith will assume a familiar role at right defensive tackle. From there, things get a little trickier.

Darnell Dockett will now move from defensive tackle to left defensive end, with Chike Okeafor moving to outside linebacker. Bertrand Berry will join Okeafor on the outside as Karlos Dansby moves to an inside linebacker position. Rounding it out is Gerald Hayes, who will fill the last inside linebacker spot.

Most of those players are talented and athletic enough to perform well at their new positions, but Dockett will carry some question marks. While he does move well for having such a big frame and weighing about 300 pounds, he seems best suited for playing under tackle. He's really going to have to step it up in order for the new 3-4 defense to be successful.

Overall, I like the alterations. I'm excited to see what this unit can do.
