Samari Rolle Placed on Ravens' PUP List, Will Miss at Least 6 Games

Samari RolleBaltimore Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle will be on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list for at least the opening six weeks of the 2009 NFL season. He'll also undergo his second surgery in under a year after a neck specialist indicated that another procedure could help Rolle get back onto the field.

Rolle missed six games last season and hasn't practiced with the team at all this fall. The Ravens released Rolle in March, then resigned him to a four-year deal in April, but he has spent most of his time since trying to heal up.

Rolle Returns to Ravens

Samari RolleSamari Rolle's stay in Baltimore appeared over when the team released the 12-year veteran cornerback on March 18. Nineteen days later, it looks like Rolle will end his career as a Raven after signing a four-year deal with Baltimore.

Rolle has spent the past four seasons with the Ravens, following a seven-year run in Tennessee. After playing all 32 games in his first two Baltimore years, though, Rolle missed 16 games between the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Even so, this move -- combined with the earlier release of Rolle -- will save the Ravens important cap space and put some nice depth in the defensive backfield.

Titans Still Looking for Corner

After losing Eric King and Chris Carr to free agency, the Titans have made it clear that they want to find a least one veteran cornerback to help out with depth. The only question is which veteran backup corner it will be.

The Titans have brought in Donald Strickland and Demarcus Faggins for visits this week. Neither of them are guys who you'd want to start, but either could be a nickel/dime back who also contributes on special teams. In fact, its hard to find a whole lot of difference between the two.

Titans' Find Carr's Replacement

While Chris Carr was in high demand on the open market, the Titans didn't seem that concerned to lose their returner. On Wednesday we found out why, as Tennessee signed former Panthers return man Mark Jones to fill the void left when Carr signed with the Ravens.

If the Titans are looking for a punt returner, Jones should be able to fill Carr's shoes. Jones is a small, shifty returner who makes people miss, but he's not a straight-line burner, which is why he had only 18 kick returns in his career before the 2008 season.

Tennessee Titans: Trying to Forget That Ugly Ending

Because the NFL season never ends, we present our 2009 Offseason Roadmaps for front offices to navigate through the summer.

The Titans' 2008 season ranks as one of the greatest in team history. After a couple of years of either just making or just missing the playoffs, the Titans took a big step forward, finishing the season with the NFL's best record (13-3). Rookie running back Chris Johnson emerged as a big-play threat and Kerry Collins not only took over the starting quarterback job from Vince Young but proved that he has some life left in his arm.

Titans Pick Up a Carr

He's not an even replacement for the soon-to-be-gone Pacman Jones, but the Titans did a nice job of bargain hunting by snagging restricted free agent Chris Carr from the Raiders.

The Raiders decided to not match the Titans one-year offer, which tells a little about how much the Raiders valued him. He's more of a returner (career averages of 24.1 yards per kick return and 5.9 per punt return) than a corneback, although he could fit in as a nickel or dime back. Carr has four career starts during his three-year career, so this is a minor move, not a long-term fix.

The biggest impact may be in changing the Titans draft plans. As Total Titans points out, the signing of Carr makes DeSean Jackson, a wide receiver with outstanding return skills, a little less appealing as a first-round pick. Since there are three or four wide receivers who all could fit into the mix for the Titans first-round pick, that doesn't necessarily change the Titans priorities, but it might tweak who they will draft.
