Chris Cooley Burns a Dead Cow, Blogs About the Experience

Chris CooleyIn "news" sure to get someone's panties in a bunch, Chris Cooley posted an interesting, we'll say, entry on his personal blog recently. Apparently on his land in Wyoming, the Redskins tight end stumbled upon a cow carcass. Naturally, he and his cohorts set the already-deceased animal on fire to "get rid of it." Cooley has teased a video of the fire, but it's not yet posted. Update: He has decided to not post the video.

My first reaction to this was, "Oh great, now a bunch of people are going to be all up in arms about how disgusting this was." Frankly, I am surprised he posted it on the Internet, what with all the wackos around who will stir up controversy over just about anything nowadays. I guess he doesn't care if it does ignite controversy, so kudos to him for that.

On Second Thought: Tight End and D/ST

On Second Thought is Matt Snyder's look back at the initial FanHouse staff rankings, which were compiled nearly a month ago. As we all know, fantasy players' value changes frequently, even when no games are being played.

After the big three positions in fantasy football, tight end is next in importance. Since you only play one tight end, though, we'll also fill this entry out by discussing some fantasy defenses as well.

LaRon Landry Returns to Redskins, Next Stop: Super Bowl

Thank God. LaRon Landry has returned to the Redskins' loving bosom. Search and rescue teams have been called off because Landry, who missed voluntary workouts last week and didn't return calls or texts from head coach Jim Zorn, showed up for work today. Disaster averted.

Last Thursday, Zorn told reporters that Landry's absence was "disappointing to his teammates as well" although "I fully expect him to be ready in training camp and go hard and have a great year."

Totally agree with that last bit, but I'm pretty sure Landry's teammates aren't losing sleep over him skipping organized team activities. You know, because unlike most of us who write about this stuff, the guys who actually play football for a living seem to understand that veteran starters familiar with the scheme aren't really missing much during the shorts and t-shirts portion of the summer schedule.

All Eyes on Jason Campbell In DC

As the Redskins go through mini-camps this spring, the most important development will be how things progress with their starting quarterback, Jason Campbell. It's no secret the Redskins pursued other options during the offseason, only to come up short and end up "stuck" with the 27-year-old Auburn product.

After three seasons, and finally one full one, under his belt, it's time for Campbell to take the next step and become a franchise quarterback. Finally getting a second season in the same offensive system -- 2009 will be the first time -- is a great start for the 6-foot-5 signal-caller. He's also getting more comfortable in his leadership role.

The Perfect Draft: Washington Redskins

With the draft approaching, we ignore projections and identify the dream scenario for each team in a series we call The Perfect Draft.

The Redskins made the biggest early splash this offseason, luring beastly defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth from Tennessee to anchor their defensive line. Their work, however, is not done. Unfortunately for Washington, it plays in arguably the best division in the NFL. Fortunately, the few holes the Redskins still have on their roster should be perfectly fixable. In fact, many could be done in-house, with younger players developing further.

Chris Cooley vs. Cleveland, or 'Things That Go Wrong When Athletes Type'

Come on, Chris. You really want to make these people mad? Plus, you'd play right across the street from the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!Having spent a little bit of time in Cleveland, I'm kind of with Chris Cooley on this one. What he wrote (apart from the unnecessarily salty language) wasn't that bad, and the fact that he got profane responses from Clevelanders speaks more to a collective inferiority complex on their part. Maybe it has something to do with losing their team to Baltimore a decade or so ago. Or replacing it with one that kind of stinks.

Still, it's not a fantastic move on the part of a player who might end up in a city to go to war with the fans in that city. And it makes you wonder how many more incidents like this we can expect with all of these athletes blogging and tweeting and doing all of this direct-fan-communication stuff that's all the rage these days.

Ovechkin to Debut in Eastern Motors Ad

Thanks to both Japers' Rink and DC Sports Bog for pointing to these videos just posted over at the Eastern Motors Blog. From the looks of it, Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin has broken through another barrier in the DC sports scene, as he'll soon be featured in an Eastern Motors ad with none other than Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley. This clip, and another after the jump, are both raw footage from behind the scenes rather than the finished ads, which ought to start airing here in the DC area shortly. Watch and enjoy.

Texans O-Lineman Needs Your Help for His 'Full-Figured Fella' Revolution

Scott Jackson is a backup offensive lineman who runs 6'5" and 300 lbs. Certainly, those aren't unusual numbers for a NFL offensive lineman, but they are for the clothiers of the world. Jackson is sick and tired of not finding clothes that fit a man of his frame and is leading a revolution of the impressively dimensioned against the tyranny of the off the rack sorts.

So he started a blog. A hilarious one. It's called "Triple F - The King of Big and Tall." If you are here goofing off and reading this blog, you should take a few more moments goofing off and read his.

I think this is the best blog by an NFL player I've read since Redskin TE Chris Cooley's. And like Cooley's blog, Jackson's blog contains a junk picture, but not inadvertently, not his own and only to make a cogent point. You can check out my interview with Jackson talking about his mission for the massive mens here. (The Arnold is on his list of men of size, of both past and present, that he would invite for dinner).
