How Likely Is Vitor Belfort-UFC Deal? Just Follow the Evidence

Last week, UFC President Dana White surprised a few people by saying that he'd like to put together a matchup between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and current Affliction middleweight Vitor Belfort.

The statement was surprising because White's been burned in the past announcing matchups that never happened and deals that fell through. Most recently, he did a verbal contract with Mirko Cro Cop prior to UFC 99, but the Croatian star bolted after one fight. Most famously, he had then-PRIDE fighter Wanderlei Silva enter the octagon at UFC 61 to announce a matchup with UFC superstar Chuck Liddell. But talks soon fizzled and White wasn't able to put the two together until after he bought PRIDE and acquired Silva's contract.

So what do those situations tell us about Belfort?

UFC 99 Breakdown: Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva

Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva are two fighters going in different directions; the former on his way up to the 205-pound weight class, the latter moving down to 185.

So in the transition, the UFC decided to pair off the duo in an intriguing matchup between a former UFC champ and former PRIDE champ at UFC 99. And while there appears to be little at stake aside from a won or loss on their records, there is likely more to it than that.

So what exactly will it determine and how will the matchup go down? Let's take a look.

TUF 10 to Feature Rampage Jackson, Rashad Evans as Coaches

After weeks of speculation, the UFC announced Thursday that Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson would be opposing coaches on season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Production of the show is expected to start in the first week of June.

Interestingly, the original press release announcing the decision made no mention of whether Jackson and Evans would square off at the conclusion of the show as has been the custom in the last several seasons. The omission was apparently accidental, as during a conference call, Jackson confirmed that he was given his choice and picked Evans.

UFC 98 Breakdown: Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans

In some ways, the UFC 98 Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida light-heavyweight title match is not getting its due. The first UFC championship fight ever to boast two unbeatens deserves more attention than its currently getting.

As it stands, Evans (13-0-1) will enter the octagon as a sizable underdog, with Machida (14-0) riding a growing surge of respect for his game. While many point to his unique striking skills as the biggest reason for his success, there are many other reasons.

So how will the matchup go down? Let's take a look.

UFC to Induct Two New Members of Hall Of Fame on UFC 100 Weekend

Two new names will be added to the short list of those inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on July 10 as part of UFC's Fan Expo during UFC 100 weekend.

To date, only five have earned the honor: Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie, Dan Severn, Randy Couture and Mark Coleman.

The UFC has not released the names of the new inductees, but if I were to venture a guess, I would think that former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is a lock for one of the slots. While Liddell has not officially retired (he's currently on vacation), UFC President Dana White has repeatedly stated "the Iceman" is done in the octagon.

Dana White Gets Humanitarian Award, Hangs With Chuck Liddell

It's a slow time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship right now with five weeks between fights, but if you're desperate for your UFC fix, the UFC has added some new videos to its official YouTube channel. Above, President Dana White receives the Humanitarian Award for his work supporting American troops, and below, White hangs out with Chuck Liddell in Talladega.

MMA Podcast on Kyle Maynard, Bobby Lashley, Fedor and More

Welcome to another FanHouse MMA podcast, where we had another good conversation about the week that was in MMA.

Among this week's topics were Kyle Maynard's MMA debut, the future plans of Bobby Lashley, the bizarre sparring exhibition between Fedor Emelianenko and Shinya Aoki, the June 27 fights of Tom Atencio and Andrei Arlovski and the possible retirement of Chuck Liddell. Listen below.

Jay Glazer: 'MMA Is in My Blood'

Jay Glazer loves covering the NFL for FOX Sports and has quickly developed into one of the best in the business at doing so.

However, while his colleagues catch up on some rest during the offseason, Glazer continues to mix it up with some of the best mixed martial arts fighters in the world at Arizona Combat Sports. And Glazer isn't just some celebrity who likes to hang out with fighters. He has a 1-1 professional MMA record, as well (his last fight was in 2003). Today, whether he's doing play-by-play for Affliction, or walking out to the Octagon with UFC light heavyweight Ryan Bader, Glazer has certainly become an MMA personality in his own right.

FanHouse caught up with Glazer on Thursday at the NCAA Football 10 party in New York to talk about his love for all things MMA and his thoughts on whether his friend Chuck Liddell has fought for the last time. The video interview is after the jump.

Matt Hughes, Frank Mir, Kenny Florian: Chuck Liddell Should Keep Fighting

Although most fans and members of the media seem to think we saw Chuck Liddell fight for the final time at UFC 97, some of Liddell's fellow fighters disagree with the conventional wisdom that he's finished.

I spoke with Matt Hughes on Thursday, and he told me he doesn't believe Liddell is done.

"I don't think so," Hughes told me. "Chuck is still dangerous to anybody. Anybody that thinks that if Chuck Liddell hits them they won't go down is wrong. Chuck is a threat to anybody. As a friend I hope he doesn't leave the sport for two reasons: Number one, I like him and I like watching him. Number two, I still think he's good enough to do some serious damage to people."

MMA Podcast on UFC 97

We're back this week with another MMA podcast, and I'm joined again by Ariel Helwani. The big topic of conversation, of course, is the disappointing performance of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 97, and who we think might give Silva a tough test.

We also talk about the likely retirement of Chuck Liddell, the future of Shogun Rua, and how every weight class in the UFC -- except middleweight -- has a big title fight in the coming months. Listen below.
