Dany Heatley Breaks Silence, Talks About Trade Demands

Ottawa Senators forward Dany Heatley finally broke his silence and spoke on a conference call about his trade demands from his home on Friday afternoon. The basic gist of his demands: it's a hockey decision and has nothing to do with his contract, the coaching staff or the fans in Ottawa. He also stated -- multiple times -- that he never wanted the demand to go public, and that he still wishes to be dealt from the Senators.

After the jump, some highlights from the two-time 50-goal scorers conference call on why he asked for a trade and why he rejected a trade that would have sent him to Edmonton.

Offseason Roadmap: Northeast Division

It's officially the offseason, meaning the time is right to look into the future. We begin our division-by-division preview of the potential wheeling and dealing with the Northeast Division.

Brian Burke begins his rebuild of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dany Heatley wants out of Ottawa and just what is Boston going to do with Phil Kessel and a limited amount of salary cap space?

Power Rankings: How They Might Finish

In our final installment of this season's power rankings, we take a look at how the teams might finish in the NHL standings. The San Jose Sharks have yet to claim the President's Trophy, but a win in their regular season finale, or one loss by the Boston Bruins, will give the Sharks the best record in the NHL for the first time in franchise history.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings, the New York Islanders are hoping that all of this losing will mean a big win in June.

Cory Clouston Gets 2-Year Extension

It's been a disappointing season for the Ottawa Senators as they find themselves out of the NHL playoff picture for the first time in 11 years. As a result, the team is on its fourth head coach -- Cory Clouston -- since a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2007.

On Wednesday, the team announced that Clouston has signed a two-year contract extension to remain as the Senators head coach.

Power Rankings: San Jose on Top

For the third time in three weeks we have a new team on top of our power rankings, as the NHL-leading San Jose Sharks take over the top spot.

The Devils take a fall thanks to their recent six-game losing streak, while Anaheim continues to climb the rankings.

Senators Defend Jason Spezza's Stick

On Monday, we showed you the video of Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza getting busted with an illegal stick. It's not something that happens all that often, and it was certainly a gutsy call by Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson to ask for the measurement late in a 2-1 hockey game. Actually, it was a brilliant call, even if the Maple Leafs failed to take advantage of the ensuing power play.

The Senators, however, don't feel Spezza's stick broke any rules and would like to have some clarification on what is legal and what is not. Here's some help, guys.

John Paddock Blames Bryan Murray for Ottawa's Struggles

The Ottawa Senators are currently on their third head coach in the past two seasons and sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The one constant over that time has been general manager Bryan Murray, and one of the former coaches is pointing the finger directly at him for the team's recent failures on the ice.

John Paddock, fired by the Senators on February 28, 2008, blasted his former boss saying, among other things, that he's now "next in line" to take the fall.
