The Perfect Draft: Dallas Cowboys

With the draft approaching, we ignore projections and identify the dream scenario for each team in a series we call The Perfect Draft.

To say the 2008 Dallas Cowboys season was tumultuous wouldn't really be giving credit to the word. The team had suspensions, Jessica Simpsons and the incredible absence of TD-ing. Dallas missed the playoffs after being a favored team going into the season and now has gone through a total redesign.

With Terrell Owens shipped to Buffalo, the passing game will go through Roy Williams, who has never been the player to take control of an offense. Balking on Ray Lewis and sticking with Tony Romo, this crew has a long way to go to be the best in their division, which is the toughest in the NFL. Along with all their obvious holes, the offensive line is a tad thin and the safety position could be improve drastically.

'Boys Michael Jenkins Was Waiting for Somebody Else to Tackle Giants Derrick Ward

Yesterday I posted the moving pictures proof of Cowboys rookie cornerback Michael Jenkins pretending to be a statue while Giants running back Derrick Ward blew past him on his way to the end zone. To be fair, the game was already out of hand and perhaps in the spirit of self-preservation, Jenkins decided against risking injury.

Or maybe he just doesn't like contact. (Also acceptable: disoriented, hungover, narcoleptic, fatalistic).
"I was just waiting on the safety to make a play," Jenkins said. "It just looked different. I really can't explain it. ... I wasn't the only one there ... Everybody's pointing it out like it was me, but there was a safety back there, too."
Just to cover all the excuses, Jenkins also added that he thought he might knock down linebacker Kevin Burnett if he tried to tackle Ward so he opted against it. You know, in the spirit of togetherness and whatnot.

Regarding that "safety back there," that would be Courtney Brown who, as the Dallas Morning News' Tim MacMahon writes, "...has made a grand total of two tackles all season despite getting significant playing time. A wait on Brown to make a play could last more than a month."

So what you're saying, Tim, is that if Courtney Brown played quarterback we'd call him Brad Johnson.

Browns Quietly Putting Together a Solid Offensive Line

For the longest time -- basically 1999 to 2003 -- the Cleveland Browns made some dreadful decisions with their first-round draft picks. Obviously, it all starts with Tim Couch (1999). And then there was Courtney Brown (2000), and Gerard Warren (2001). Who could forget William Green over Clinton Portis (2002), and Jeff Faine (2003).

But with the dark days of Chris Palmer and Butch Davis behind the franchise, things have picked up in recent years. Kellen Winslow, Braylon Edwards, Kamerion Wimbley, and now, Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn. While it's easy to point to Quinn as the team's most important pick -- possibly in this version of the Browns' short history -- it may be the other 2007 first-rounder that ends up having the better career.

Cleveland's offensive line is quietly having a solid season. The unit is on pace to give up 28 sacks, the fewest in 13 years. This group is excelling with a rookie left tackle, and missing two of its best players: tackle Ryan Tucker and center LeCharles Bentley. But that's changing:
