Dan Miller Talks Recent Loss, Potential Demian Maia Fight, MMA in New York

Middleweight fighter Dan Miller suffered the first loss of his UFC career when he dropped a unanimous decision to Chael Sonnen at UFC 98 in May. His road back to title contention won't get any easier if he ends up facing Demian Maia at UFC 109 in February 2010, as has been reported by several media outlets already.

FanHouse recently spoke to Miller about the possibility of facing Maia next year, what went wrong against Sonnen, and his desire to fight in Madison Square Garden. The video interview is below.

UFC Newcomer Jay Silva Still Doesn't Believe His Dream Has Come True

Two years ago, Jay Silva was just a nightclub bouncer who liked watching MMA on television. Then a chance encounter with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 78, led to him moving to California to begin his MMA career. Next week, he'll make his Octagon debut when he steps in on short notice to face CB Dollaway at UFC Fight Night 19 in Oklahoma City. Dollaway's original opponent, Dan Miller, was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an undisclosed infection.

FanHouse spoke to Silva, who is 5-1 in his career, about his unique road to the UFC and how he plans on preparing for Dollaway. The full interview is below.

Jake Rosholt: NCAA Wrestling Champ Makes the Move to the UFC

Few collegiate wrestlers have accomplished more than Jake Rosholt, a four-time All-American and three-time NCAA champion at Oklahoma State. But now Rosholt is finding that the move from the mat to the Octagon isn't easy.

Rosholt started fighting mixed martial arts in 2007, and in February of 2009 he made his debut in the UFC. His first fight, however, lasted just over a minute, before Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt Dan Miller caught him in a guillotine choke and forced him to tap out.

Now Rosholt is preparing for his second UFC fight, against Chris Leben at UFC 102 on August 29, and in an interview with FanHouse, he said he's learned from that loss and he's ready to do the necessary work to become a champion in the UFC, just as he was a champion in the NCAA.

Great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Demian Maia; Good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Dan Miller

If you want to know the difference between good Brazilian jiu jitsu and great Brazilian jiu jitsu, watch Chael Sonnen's last two fights. On Saturday night at UFC 98, Sonnen beat someone with good BJJ, Dan Miller. Three months ago at UFC 95, Sonnen lost to someone with world-class BJJ, Demian Maia.

Both of those two fights went to the ground quickly. But against Miller, Sonnen was able to escape from an early guillotine attempt and then use his superior wrestling ability to overpower Miller throughout the fight. Against Maia, Sonnen also went to the ground quickly, but Maia put him into a triangle choke from which he couldn't escape.

UFC 98 Morning After: How Will Anyone Beat Lyoto Machida?

Lyoto Machida winsThe light heavyweight division is the most talented weight class in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but after watching Lyoto Machida dominate Rashad Evans for the title Saturday night at UFC 98, I'm having a very hard time seeing how anyone is going to beat him any time soon.

That might sound like a crazy thing to say, because upsets happen all the time in mixed martial arts, and the light heavyweight title has changed hands four times in the last two years. But the fundamental way to win a fight is to hurt your opponent without getting hurt yourself, and there's no one better at that than Machida.

Edgar, Sonnen and McFedries Among Early Winners at UFC 98

Rising lightweight star Frankie Edgar scored a major upset over former UFC champion Sean Sherk, while Chael Sonnen and Drew McFedries were among other early winners at UFC 98.

In a matchup featuring two lightweight fighters primarily known for their wrestling abilities, Frankie Edgar earned the biggest win of his young career by defeating former champion Sean Sherk in a dominant performance, taking all three rounds on every judge's scorecard.

Sherk, coming off a win over Tyson Griffin in which he out-struck him, opted to stick with his standup, largely staying away from takedowns until late in the third round. That strategy turned out to be a big mistake. Edgar got the best of most of the exchanges, bloodying Sherk's face in the process.

Going Gets Tough for Yushin Okami

Yushin OkamiYushin Okami is often viewed as the forgotten man in the UFC's middleweight division. Some -- including myself -- have him listed as the second-best 185-pound fighter in the world, yet his name is hardly mentioned when discussing future challengers for the current middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.

Well, after learning that Okami has pulled out of his upcoming UFC 98 fight against Dan Miller due to a torn knee ligament, I am officially denouncing him as my No. 1 contender in the UFC's middleweight division. Harsh, perhaps, but at this point, it needs to be done.

UFC Fight Night 17: Jake Rosholt Submitted by Dan Miller in UFC Debut

When three-time NCAA wrestling champion Jake Rosholt left Oklahoma State and decided to become a professional MMA fighter, a lot of people in mixed martial arts thought he had future star written all over him.

But in his first Ultimate Fighting Championship fight tonight at UFC Fight Night 17 in Tampa, Rosholt was whipped by the more experienced Dan Miller, who needed just over a minute to catch Rosholt in a guillotine and get him to tap.
