Meet The ...
Team that wants you to believe they can win with anybody. That's right, it's the system and not the players. The Giants shed a bulk of their offense in the offseason, some by choice, others ... well not so much. Their franchise QB bid farewell to his top receiving options and a key running back bolted for free agency.

Yet, let's not worry too much. The Giants still have a monster with Brandon Jacobs, a ball-hawking defense that thrives on pressure, and some potential budding stars on offense. Will Eli shake off the tough offseason and put up those solid and consistent numbers we all crave? Well, maybe. Yeah, that's a good theme for owning most of this Giants offense. Do you trust (fill-in-the blank) ... "well, maybe."

Giants Camp Is Dull and Serious -- Just The Way They Like It

Peyton Manning tagged along with brother Eli, Brandon Jacobs and the rest of the New York Giants as they took in a ballgame at new Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The most exciting thing that happened at New York Giants minicamp Wednesday was a press conference to announce Timex as the naming-rights sponsor for the team's new training facility here -- the "Timex Performance Center." It's a beautiful complex, but unless you're the ones pocketing $35 million from the deal over the next 15 years, this wasn't exactly the stuff of big headlines.

That's fine with the Giants, who got their fill of headlines at last year's minicamp.

Coming off a Super Bowl championship, the Giants convened last year amid loud, obnoxious Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress contract controversies. Neither of those players was on the team by year's end, but they were here a year ago, and they were making it noisy. This year ... not so much. And Tom Coughlin couldn't be happier about it.

Giants RB Danny Ware Says Truth Will Come Out, Peter King Flexes His NFL GM Muscles

Four days ago, I had no idea who Danny Ware was. Before last weekend, apparently, he was just a running back sequestered on the Giants practice squad. Now he's the guy who was arrested for being drunk while standing in oncoming traffic at two in the morning. No idea what would possess anybody to do that (well, other than to get their mind right for the big game), but at least he wasn't wearing his uniform, so there's that.

Whatever, Ware tells the New York Post that the full story has yet to be told (I mean, there has to be a completely logical explanation for this; 24-year-old professional athletes just don't get drunk and start doing stupid stuff for no reason.)
"The truth is going to come out," said Ware, who was arrested along with a woman for drunken conduct and because they seemed oblivious to traffic that had to steer around them as they stood in the street talking, police told the Athens Banner Herald. His court case is later this month. ... "Everybody sees the comments," Ware said. "You can have your own opinion. But the truth's going to come out, we'll just have to wait."
And wait I will.

Giants RB Danny Ware Enjoys Bye Week, Gets Arrested For Standing In Traffic Drunk

Some people are taking the Georgia loss to Alabama this weekend a little harder than others, including one Super Bowl champ.

New York Giants running back Danny Ware was arrested at 2:24 a.m. Sunday morning while doing what we all do when we're drunk and with a girl -- standing in the middle of oncoming traffic just chatting away. The Athens-Banner Herald reported (via The Star-Ledger) that both Ware and 24-year-old Jennifer Henderson were charged with pedestrian under the influence and pedestrian in the roadway.



Ware and a 24-year-old Dallas woman attracted a police officer's attention at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday at East Clayton Street near North Jackson Street because they seemed oblivious to traffic that had to steer around them as they stood in the street talking, according to police.

Ware admitted that he'd been drinking, and a breath test showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.152 grams, police said.

I guess all of this leads to just one simple question. What did the guy do after the Giants beat the Patriots? Scottsdale has a lot of streets you can stand in while talking to people. I prefer Sandalwood Drive.

Training camps are underway, the NFL season is a month off, and to get you ready for 2008, FanHouse previews all 32 teams, "heat index" style. We'll rate each club in 10 categories on a scale of 1 to 10, high score wins.

Quarterback: Who would have thought a year ago that the perception of Eli Manning would have changed so drastically? That's what happens when you win a Super Bowl. But can you really expect Manning to be as precise as he was during that improbable championship run? Either the light finally went on for Manning, or he simply found a zone. Or a combination of the two. Last year was a step forward, for sure, but I expect Eli Manning v.2008 to resemble something in between the lows and highs of the two Eli Mannings circa 2007. Still, that's good enough to win games. What isn't good enough to win games is David Carr, the team's new backup, so Manning better stay upright for all 16. Heat Index: 7

Running back: The Giants found out exactly how critical depth at running back is, and they also found out that they luckily have it. Great contributions came from Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Derrick Ward, and Reuben Droughns. Danny Ware will likely take Droughns' place this year, but the team is still set in the backfield. Jacobs' combination of speed and power is pretty unstoppable, and while punishing backs don't typically have long shelf lives, Jacobs is in his prime now if he stays healthy this year. Heat Index: 8

Jets Trim Roster to 53; Kimo von Oelhoffen, Danny Ware Sent Packing

When the New York Jets announced their roster cuts yesterday, there were a few surprises on the list. Sure, most people expected Andre Wadsworth and Anthony Schlegel to be released, but Kimo von Oelhoffen, Bobby Hamilton and Danny Ware? At least in some small degree, they came as a bit of a shock.

Ware, a rookie running back out of Georgia, had a good preseason for the Jets and appeared to have a spot locked down. However, Coach Eric Mangini thought otherwise and decided to cut him loose, thinning an already shallow pool of running backs for New York.

Like Ware, and up until this week, it seemed like von OelHoffen and Hamilton's jobs were secure. But at 36 years old and commanding significant salaries, Mangini decided to save the Jets some money ($1.85 million on von OelHoffen alone) and get younger.

Other notable cuts: Defensive end Michael Haynes, tackle Na'Shan Goddard and cornerback Manny Collins.

Surprising non-cut: Quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo.

Last Second Field Goal Propels Jets to 13-11 Victory Over Philadelphia

The New York Jets rounded out their preseason with a 13-11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, which concluded on a game winning field goal off the foot of Mike Nugent.

Marques Tuiasosopo led the Jets in passing, going 9 of 16 for 78 yards. And while the statistics aren't that impressive, he was the catalyst on the Jets final drive. He showed some good poise and leadership ability on that series, possibly winning him the third quarterback job over Brad Smith.

The rushing attack was also something to behold tonight for New York. Even with Leon Washington and Thomas Jones sitting out, the Jets were able to gain 113 yards on the ground. Stacy Tutt led the way with 48 yards, while Danny Ware added 33 of his own.

Defensively, things weren't quite as positive. While the Jets did manage to hold the Eagles to 11 points, quarterback Kevin Kolb was able to pick their secondary apart. He ended the night going 22 of 33 (33 passes in a preseason game, are you kidding me?) for 220 yards and a touchdown -- obviously not a positive thing for the Jets second and third team secondaries.

Kellen Clemens Leads Jets to a 20-12 Comeback Win Over the Giants

Things started fast and ended strong for the New York Jets tonight as they handed the Giants their second loss of the preseason. Although they hit a rough stretch after their first offensive series, back-up quarterback Kellen Clemens (6 of 8 for 122 yards and a rushing touchdown) was able to revive the team in the second half and eventually lead them to victory.

While Jets fans can be thankful for Clemens, they have to be questioning their faith in Chad Pennington after his second straight poor performance. Although he had one nice completion (79 yards) to Leon Washington on the first play of the game, it was all down hill from there. Over the next seven series, the Jets managed a total of zero yards. To Pennington's credit, the Giants first team defense was absolutely dominating the line of scrimmage and their blitzes were well disguised.

Another plus for the Jets would be the performance of undrafted rookie free agent Danny Ware, who managed 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Although he was playing against defensive substitutes, he showed great field awareness and some rather impressive and crisp cuts.
