After being cut by the Calgary Flames on Friday and mulling his options over the weekend, 41-year-old Theoren Fleury announced his retirement on Monday saying, "I could not sign with another team ... I retire a Calgary Flame." And with that, a 15-year NHL career comes to a close that saw the speedy forward tally 1,088 points. A former eighth-round pick in 1987, Fleury spent parts of 11 seasons as a member of the Flames, scoring 364 of his 455 career goals. He was a member of the Flames only Stanley Cup winning team in 1988-89, and last played in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2003.
Meanwhile, in Toronto, another comeback attempt has fallen short, this time involving former No. 17 overall pick Jason Allison.
