Injuries to Watch: Week 8

Brian WestbrookWhether it's torn, sprained, broken or just needs to be taped, Injuries to Watch will keep you up to date on injuries around the NFL and how they'll affect your fantasy football team.

Quarterback

Trent Edwards, Bills - Edwards has been ruled out for Week 8. He participated in practice on Wednesday but only in a limited capacity. He's not recovering as quickly from the concussion as the medical staff would like, even though he's been cleared to play. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in his place.

Matthew Stafford, Lions - Stafford practiced fully on Tuesday but was limited on Wednesday with his knee injury. The fact that he practiced two days in a row is a step in the right direction, but it's still not known whether or not he'll be able to start on Sunday.

Damage Control: No Broken Bones for Anquan Boldin

Anquan BoldinDid the injury bug hit your fantasy football team like it was a car windshield moving at 100 MPH? If so, it may be time to do some Damage Control.

Quarterback

Daunte Culpepper, Lions - Culpepper calls the injury a tweak, others call it a slight hamstring pull. Drew Stanton played the majority of the second half on Sunday and nobody knows who will be the Lions quarterback in Week 7.

Joe Flacco, Ravens - Flacco was noticeably limping on Sunday after his foot was trampled. He has a bye week this week -- rest will do him good.

Trent Edwards, Bills - Edwards took a blow to the head on Sunday. The Bills aren't using the word concussion until further tests have been completed.

Fantasy Football Sunday Wrap: The Resurrection of Elite Tom Brady

Sunday Evening Wrap checks out players who increased or decreased their value during the Sunday afternoon games.

Sunday's Top Riser: We've seen this Tom Brady before, and it was in 2007 when he threw for almost 5,000 yards and totaled 50 touchdown passes. So far in 2009, he'd been good, but not great. And we drafted Brady for great in fantasy football. Enter the Tennessee Titans and the worst pass defense in football. Brady, despite playing in a quasi-blizzard, completed 29-of-34 passes for 380 yards and six touchdowns. That's all he'll need to get that swagger back. Next week against Tampa Bay, he's going to put on a show across the pond in London's Wembley Stadium, and he's a bonafide top-three fantasy QB again -- you can take that to the bank.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Willis McGahee Wants More Touches

Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

At the end of Week 3 Willis McGahee had rushed for 190 yards and five touchdowns. Even now as Week 5 only has one Monday Night Football game left before it's closed out, McGahee leads the NFL with seven touchdowns. The problem for fantasy football owners is for the last two weeks, McGahee has played no part in the offense.

If you combine Week 4 and Week 5 McGahee has rushed the ball only six times for a total of nine yards. He's only made two receptions for 17 yards and a touchdown over that two-week span as well. After starting the season so well, Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun says that McGahee is confused about his lack of playing time lately.

Matthew Stafford Likely Out Sunday

As the Detroit Lions' one-game winning streak was officially snapped Sunday in Chicago, fans were left holding their breath. Quarterback Daunte Culpepper might have been in the game only after it was out of hand, but he was also in there because rookie starter Matthew Stafford had gone down with a knee injury.

While it doesn't sound like Stafford's injury will be a long-term issue, the Lions appear to be planning on him missing Sunday's game against the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pocket Presence: Kolb, Garcia Wait for McNabb; Quinn Still Shaky

It's often said that a team with two quarterbacks really doesn't have any. With that spirit in mind, FanHouse will keep you updated weekly on NFL teams facing potential quarterback controversies.

Things are looking interesting in Philadelphia, although Donovan McNabb can come back and ruin all the fun. Meanwhile, there appears to be no end in sight to the situation in Cleveland, where the Browns have looked generally awful when they have the ball.

Pocket Presence: Injuries, Turnovers Cause Week 1 Drama

You can't predict injuries. Even the most injury-prone players are often able to run seven yards without being broken in half, so it's unfair to say that a major lost-time injury doesn't come as a surprise. This week, we find quarterback situations around the league impacted by injuries, ineffectiveness, checkdowns, and interceptions.

Sunday Snippets: Delhomme Is Bad, Even in His Good Minute

Jake DelhommeIt got so bad for Jake Delhomme Sunday that, even when he was good, he was bad.

Was he ever good in Carolina's 38-10 loss to the Eagles, in which he threw four interceptions and lost a fumble that was returned by a touchdown? Well, the Panthers took the opening kickoff and moved 70 yards for a score of their own to take a 7-0 lead on DeAngelo Williams' 11-yard run. But it was ugly -- two plays before the TD, the Panthers had a first down at the Eagles 1, but Ryan Kalil jumped on the first play and Jeff Otah on the second.

Pocket Presence: Browns Play Mind Games With Vikings

The Cleveland Browns still have not announced whether Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson will start Sunday against the Vikings.

There are some unusual circumstances surrounding the quarterback position as we enter Week 1 of the NFL season. There is still one team that has yet to formally announce its starter for Sunday, while others can expect to face questions about their signal-callers unless things go really, really well.

There's No Reason to Worry About Calvin Johnson's Fantasy Value

Calvin JohnsonOK, it's not like the Detroit Lions were going to make the playoffs under the guidance of Daunte Culpepper. If anything the choice to start Matthew Stafford over Culpepper was based solely on the fact that Lions management realized they weren't going to be any better or worse. It also comes down to a depressed football town in a depressed economy and yes, putting people in the seats on Sunday. Culpepper was a causality even if he probably was good for at least two more wins.

However, do we really care that much about who the Lions' starting QB was/is gonna be in the fantasy football world? Of course not, all we care about is how this will help or hurt the investment many of us made in Calvin Johnson. From the glass is half-empty perspective, we see this as doom. A starting rookie QB with loads of inexperience trying to be the butter to our No. 1 WR's bread. Then again, from the glass is half-full perspective do we really care who throws the ball to Megatron? He's an animal.

Let's weigh in on the pros and cons before we panic.
