Tip-Off Timer counts down the days until the first game of the 2009-10 season. On Tuesday, there are 42 days remaining.

The uniforms arrived. The sneakers showed up. So did the basketballs.

Thompson, Gervin Again Linked as Hall of Fame Presenters

It would figure David Thompson and George Gervin are together again.

They had an epic final-day duel for the 1977-78 NBA scoring title, won by Gervin. They were both inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996. And now they both will be presenters at Friday's Basketball Hall of Fame induction in Springfield, Mass.

Thompson will present Michael Jordan and Gervin will be one of two presenters for David Robinson.

Tip-Off Timer counts down the days until the first game of the 2009-10 season. On Friday, there are 53 days remaining.

Never has the NBA seen such a final-day, two-man showdown in the race for a scoring title.

Only four times in league history has a player scored 53 points or more in a one half of a game. And two of those came on the same day -- April 9, 1978 -- when David Thompson and George Gervin waged a thrilling battle that was held six hours and 1,500 miles apart.

Thompson scored 53 of his 73 points in the first half for the Denver Nuggets, who were playing that afternoon in Detroit on the final day of the regular season.

Tip-Off Timer counts down the days until the first game of the 2009-10 season. On Friday, there are 67 days remaining.

Scoring 100 points in an NBA game was such a phenomenal feat that it may never be matched. Yet that century mark isn't what defined Wilt Chamberlain as the greatest scoring machine in NBA history.

A lot of people can do things once.

Kobe Bryant scored 81. David Thompson had 73. Elgin Baylor and David Robinson each managed 71. Michael Jordan hit 69 and Pete Maravich scored 68.

The magic number is 67.
