One Year Later, Evan Tanner's Life, Legacy Remembered

The people who knew him still think of him regularly. How can they not? He moved them closer to life's truths than anyone else. He pulled them in, taught them lessons, then disappeared. He made them feel alive. He challenged them to think deeper, look further, rise above. He broke their hearts, then showed them what true redemption was all about.

They remember him because one year later, the life of Evan Tanner still echoes.

Biggest NFL Busts by Team: Who's Your Team's Worst Draft Pick Ever?

Everyone makes mistakes. But when those mistakes are magnified by intense scrutiny of the NFL draft, well, they become much more embarrassing than, say, my typical Friday morning, mustard-stain-on-khakis incident.

Which is why the NFL FanHouse braintrust got together to determine who is the biggest bust for each NFL team. They're not listed in terms of stupidity -- they're all stupid relative to a team's total draft performance. Meaning, of course, some teams "bust" is much different than another organization's; we did it this way to avoid just linking you to DetroitLions.com.

Instead, we're putting it in current draft order, sans trades, and allowing this list to serve as a reminder of each's team's ability to properly execute a fail. The "bust factor" was based primarily on three things: statistical production (or lack thereof), position in the draft and other available options during that year's draft.

To Avoid Fumbling Another First Round Pick, the Bears Should Take a Lineman

Cedric Benson. Rex Grossman. David Terrell. Cade McNown. Curtis Enis.

Who are five men who have never been in my kitchen?

Yes, but also five reasons why the Bears should absolutely be looking at the best available offensive lineman when the 14th pick of the first round rolls around. Those five picks represent five times the Bears thought they were getting a dynamic player that would lead their offense to new heights and five times they found themselves, shortly thereafter, back at square one. Not that the Bears were the only team to get burnt over the years, of course, but how many times do you need to learn the same lesson before you do something different?

In the FanHouse Mock Draft, we suggested that the Bears pick up tackle Jeff Otah because he'd be a steadying influence on an offense that needs it. A recent study backs that up. Dan Pompei took a look at the last 10 years of the NFL Draft and found that when you're looking for a safe and solid return on your investment, offensive line is the place to go.
An incredible 90 percent of the 41 linemen taken in the first round over the last 10 years have become solid starters. In an era when first-round gambles can haunt a franchise for years, there simply is no safer pick than an offensive lineman.

Broncos Sign Obama Campaign Volunteer

David Terrell was the 8th overall pick in the 2001 draft. Coming out of Michigan he was more highly regarded than his quarterback, some dude named Tom Brady. After four unimpressive seasons with the Bears, Terrell landed in Denver last year, only to be released during training camp. So, what did the former first-round pick do in his off time?
When David Terrell found himself out of the NFL ... last summer, it was the first time in his life he didn't have football. He found a new passion - the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. Terrell worked as a volunteer for the campaign as part of the recruitment development staff in L.A.

"I have so much respect for the man," Terrell said. "And I want to do what I can to help."
That's kinda cool. And the news gets even better for Terrell: the Broncos just signed him to a one-year deal. Yeah, I know, he might not make it out of training camp, but it beats working for free ... even if you like what you're doing.
